Favourite Author and Favourite Book (Page 4) Likeitornot: I don’t think I have a favourite author or a book but I do enjoy books by these authors. Silverdiamond: Favourite authors: Sydney Sheldon, Jackie Collins fav books: If Tomorrow Comes and Lucky and Lady Boss and i like to Kill a Mockingbird X3NO: Has to be William Styron, The Confessions Of Nat Turner. An excellent story of a black preacher who felt divinely ordained to annihilate all the white people in the region, set in South Eastern Virginia. A truly remarkable book concerning the inhumanity of slavery in the 1800's. Black Dog Rising: Black Dog Rising: How I Murdered My Girlfriend and Got Away With It. http://www.amazon.com/Black-Dog-Rising-Girlfriend-ebook/dp/B005ZNJGWU JennyKay: The best book i'v eread so far is the Book Theif by Markus Zusak. I cry everytime i read it. I just love how its narrated from death's point of view. MrzTamara: Columbine by Dave Cullen-Investigative, Stoner and Spaz-love story, Mighty Max-anti bullying, Professional Idiot-good for people in rehab Viks1996: my fav author is Stephen King - and all of his books are just great, they give me a chill. uglybetty1: MY favouriteis V.S. Naipaul who hails from Trinidad & Tobago in the West Indies. He is a Pulitzer prize winner and has written multiple nooks about his native land....which he hates with a passion.!!!! Figure that one out.! I will still give him props for his wonderfil, descriptive style of writing. My favourite of his books are: A House for Mr. Biswas& Miguel Street...both set in the West Indies. zackdark58: This is easy. James A. Michener. The first novel he published, "Tales of the South Pacific", won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1948 and he was already 40 years old! Nobody (except maybe Leon Uris and Ken Follett) has even come close to the scope and accuracy of historic detail that he brought to every one of his sweeping epics, most of which ran 1000 or more pages. More currently, books by Tom Wolfe ("The Right Stuff", "The Electric Kool-aid Acid Test" and Thom Hartmann ("Screwed, the Un-declared War on the Middle Class" have been been in my backpack a lot. And all you young people remember one thing: READERS... ARE LEADERS! uglybetty1: "Screwed" , sounds like a book that I might want to read, Right now I am taking a course that requires me to read 30 short stories...and to analyze them. The most bizarre one was Hemingway's, "Hills Like White Elephants" I had no clue as to wht it was about,,,,until I read the critical reviews. What a stretch!!!!! By the way Zack, nice pooch... and I love the sating, "Readers are leaders" chronology: John Dos Passos 'USA'. Dos Passos chronicled American Society at it's most critical period, the 1920s and 1930s, would America become a Fascist country or a Liberal Country? as it turned out Americans chose Liberal FDR. The Book is like Steinbeck's 'Grapes of Wrath' but without the sentimentality, and goes into far more detail presenting the arguments and conflicts of American workers, religious and business interests. Dashiell Hammett's 'Maltese Falcon' is also a easy read of life in 1940s San Francisco, Hammett brought a lot of first hand knowledge to the Private Investigator genre, unlike Raymond Chandler who was actually an English Educated upper class Canadian. Hammett also had a classic exchange with Joe McCarthy's Red Baiting friends that landed him in Rikers Island Prison for two years for refusing to answer the 'are you or have you ever been a communist'.
