BMW 2000 - no reverse

Kalifornier: I got a 323i wagon. reverse stopped working over night. i asked two mechanics. they both say its going to be about $4,000 to fix.

anyone has experience with this?

BIGGJON: dont put your self in a situation where you have to back up and its all good lol if reverse is gone it probbaly wont be long until the other gears start going

SlayerMan: 4000 is a little expensive to fix that. I would look around for a used transmission and just pay someone to install it. It will be alot cheaper.

BIGGJON: it all depends on where your at also....and yea 4k is steep and the thing about buying a trans is that alot of shops wont install parts you've bought bc they cant throw a warranty with em

Chris: its a RWD car, go to a euro wreckers, get a second hand tranny, and some mates and swap it over.

SlayerMan: Like Chris said, find a couple of buddies that can help you swap out the tranny. Swapping out a transmission is not that hard to do and will take less than a day if you have a couple of people who know what they are doing. Plus you should be able to find a rebuilt one for about 500 dollars or so.

BIGGJON: yea putting it in yourself is always the easiest route..... but i think if he could of done it like that he wouldnt of went and had a shop price it?
