My Honda prelude, the saga of death.

Car Chat Any Thing
Chris: About 20 000km ago I bought my 4th Gen prelude, the base model S with no four wheel steer, and the 2.2 non vtec engine. 5 speed of course .

at the 200 000km mark, I got it fully serviced, including all belts. 5000km later the timing belt slipped, causing a simple breakdown, while annoying the mechanic fixed it for free.

20km later, the timing belt slipped AGAIN, this time letting pistons and valves meet at 4000rpm. 2 shattered pistons, 1 snapped camshaft, all valves bent.

A replacement motor is currently fitted, and im about to take re-delivery of it, lets hope it lasts! I need something more fuel economical for work anyways, so im going to be buying a brand new Suzuki Alto 5 speed (998cc 3 cylinder buzz box, quite a good car that has better economy than hybrids). And ill rebuild the prelude as my track day car, more than likely with a bisimoto spec engine.

I hate blown motors.

Chris: Speaking of which, to any indian members, have you heard any stories about unreliability with the Suzuki Alto? its made in India, same as the Maruti A-star, if it can handle the Indian environment, it should do well in Australia.

SlayerMan: That sucks about the prelude. I had the same thing happen not to long ago in my 90 300zx. Threw in a new motor and things have been fine since.

All I can say concerning Suzuki is that it is kind of like Subaru. You never hear anything good or bad about them (like breakdown, awards, problems). They just continue quietly behind the scenes but since they are still around in todays market they must be doing something right. The few people who I know that have Suzuki's love them to death and will never get rid of them.
