What is the main thing that annoys you about poor use of Grammar? Nurse Bettie: wen ppl rite lke ths. nt only do i nt undastn it, it mks u l00k lke a f00l. Complete idiots. DISC: wtf if poor grammar annoys ya then may I respectfully suggest wire aint ur best environment 4 a calm an fulfillin life. Chat sites like wire are dedicated 2 innovation of new forms of language an does not stand 2 undermine cultures but seeks 2 cross boundaries between them. Dj Jessy: Clearly it doesn't only bother me, buddy. Not everyone has to conform to this "internet language". otcclass: I believe that people should be thankful for the ability to read and write and they should cherish it but doing all they can do right by it. I believe that there are those that wish to deface the English language by using slang and such. Instead of doing what it takes to learn the correct way to speak and write they would rather take the easy road and just make up words and such just because it is easy. ~ Ovaltine ~: thanks for the creator of this club, so please judge me anytime when you guys found any grammar fault in my sentence, so i could learned from the mistakes... thanks lot ^^ otcclass: I for one don't wish to "judge" anyone. I just wish everyone would just care enough about the language that has stood the test of time. Evy: I agree with Nurse Bettie. My special "favourite" is "dats" (that's) or any other forms of it. It just sounds dumb. But everyone has the right to speak and write as they please, I'm just not impressed when a person talks to me in a way that makes me wonder if he or she has recently been to the dentist and is experiencing difficulties speaking Karma: OK, Ovaltine. In that post your meaning is clear, but your tense choices were sometimes wrong. "found" should be "find" in this instance and "could learned" should have been "can learn." And I agree with you, I would much prefer to be corrected and learn, than to go on making the same mistakes over and over. cutie666: I hate it when someone uses : u (you) ur (you are) 2 (to or too) bcoz (because) ppl (people) ... ... ... Does it really save so much time to write "ur" instead of "you are" ? Or do they think it's cool? Or are they just being lazy? DISC: Yes it does save time, especially in chatroom environments where quickfire typing is requires to make comments in time to be relevant. Of course we are all lazy or we wouldn't be idling our time away on wire. AMurderDivine: No one is perfect and we're all bound to make mistakes, but when you constantly misspell words and don't go back to correct yourself it totally makes you look illiterate. I hate the fact that most people on this site think it's ok to look like a fool and that sticky caps are cute. Ignorance is not cute or funny. Nurse Bettie: I can't see how shortening down words like 'you' to 'u' saves a whole lot of time... considering a wide variety of people already type with some considerable speed. It takes me longer to abbreviate words and an even longer amount of time to read and understand a sent message. A prime example of this would be this profile: jgangstafolife He doesn't sound cool in my opinion, just uneducated. Evy: Nurse Bettie, That's exactly the kind of use of language I dislike. It might take him less time to write it, but it sure takes me more time to understand it. Some short versions of words don't bother me, if they're not used too often. But again, in the end, it's our own choice how me write, and i choose to write the way I write AMurderDivine: Oh my good God... what the hell is jgangstafolife trying to say? Can anyone understand that? Cornelius Focker: bahahha i just clicked on his profile...how ironic... can anyone else spot the humour? vinilla: you know, i try and try to speak the queens english but it's hard for me being a bit cockney and all, so please dont judge vinilla on his apparent flavour as he's trying awfully hard to please you all!!! with that said wat da fuc is yu al tawkin bout yu fussy buncha peeps? lol F2OOO™: I hate when people try to correct other people when they themselves misspell things intentionally, such as the often frequented usage of the expressions "u", "u r", & "ur" often followed by "dum". It makes me want to reach out and choke the crap out of someone while saying "god shut the f*ck up, you do it too". Coolime: Everybody.....Common We are not doing any business here, so that each and every word and a sentence are strucured and formally correct As long as the other person understands your english, thats more than enough .....what do you all say....anybody with me Cheers enjoy life rongonui: yep me i agree with you,we arnt all cleaver, but as long as we can understand each other thats all that counts, MaThinker (M.T.): Ovaltine, Karma has corrected you perfectly. But when you said Thanks Lot, it should have been "Thanks a lot." It is the lame and frequent excuse of people in my country: "As long as you are understood". But it is a poor and lazy excuse from people who are either too lazy to learn or beyond re-education or those with too big egos to bear correction. Often there is terrible misunderstanding when people here use wrong grammar (tenses) and one is confused about whether something has happened, is yet to happen, or is taking place in the present. Those shortened forms like 'u' for 'you' evolved out of cellphone texting where it is far easier to abbreviate the spelling as one is typing only with one thumb. And i was guilty of transferring that onto type here and elsewhere on the internet, until i was posting on a site where such abbreviations were not permitted. I have since then taken the trouble to spell things out in full, and it is okay because i type with eight fingers and a thumb, not so difficult and demanding as on cellphone messages. | Education Chat Room Similar Conversations |
