What is the main thing that annoys you about poor use of Grammar? (Page 2) Cheer4Life_: "wtf if poor grammar annoys ya then may I respectfully suggest wire aint ur best environment 4 a calm an fulfillin life. Chat sites like wire are dedicated 2 innovation of new forms of language an does not stand 2 undermine cultures but seeks 2 cross boundaries between them." Speaking in "IM Talk" is not a new form of language. You sound like a democrat LanaLynne: While I do believe that grammar gives us rules and regulations, English is a living language... it changes, it grows. If it didn't we'd all still be speaking and writing like a Shakespear play. However, like anything else you need to know the rules before you can break them. Lilyofthenile: "Innovation of new forms of language" seems like a backward approach to language. like cave drawings. soon they will give it credence like they did Ebonics. jaysonreed: I'm dislesic sorry about the spelling I missed grammer at school. I didn't get any help reading or writing and missed the principles of creating letters or sentences (Post deleted by SPIKIE MIKIE ) Campion: Vocabulary, grammar, spelling and the like are all about communication. To be effective a communication must be understood without any ambiguity or misunderstanding. I have read a great many posts on various internet forums that I could not make any sense of whatsoever or that I misunderstood completely because of poor form. gbox1: My biggest pet peeve is using 'your' instead of 'you're'. Probably the most egregious grammar error people make. However, what annoys me more is the attitude of 'This isn't school, this is social media!' as a lame excuse to justify it. As English speakers, there should be some pride in sounding educated in your own language. This lazy mentality is what many bitch about in our school systems. 'Our kids don't take pride in anything. They don't think deep, they are lazy!', Well, yeah...when adults can't even use their own language properly and vilify and ridicule those that point it out, what do you expect from kids? MJ59: "See that women over they're, I'm better then her and she can't except that, although that doesn't effect me at all cos I can run further than her!" Motati: As long as the readers can get the message. There are people from different countries here, others English is a foreign language to them. gbox1: Probably the ignorant excuses that people use to justify it. "This isn't a classroom, this is (Insert your favorite social media platform here)." Like education only matters when we were in junior high. There is a celebration of ignorance and an apathy for knowledge in society today. I experience it everyday in my grade 7 class. In Math: "Why do we have to learn this? We're never going to use it." In Spelling "Why do you use all these big words? Just dumb it down. Nobody wants to learn just to exercise the brain, develop logical thinking skills or expand their knowledge base. It is so frustrating. anthonyhawthorn07: Hypercorrection - The use of I or myself when me is perfectly correct as in, Jan gave the books to Dave and I. Somehow people have come to believe that the word me is never correct. (Post deleted by Angry Beaver ) (Post deleted by Angry Beaver ) SoulSister2023: Two, to, and too. I saw two dogs playing outside. I went to the store to get some gum. I took too much candy from the dish. Are the variations on the word "to" really too hard to understand?
