Society mystery-blues: In todays society we are taught to be different after all it is to be human if we are different. Then why is it that people are abused, killed, hurt, and ignored just because they are different. Some people are open minded but not enough people are, what can we do to make them more open minded and showing them that what they are doing goes against everthing we are and are taught? Personally, I applaud your desire for peace, I just don't think blaming their "teachings" compared to yours is the answer. Saffin: It isn't exactly true that we are encouraged to be different, whether it be by society or the people who care about us. I was told at a young age to stop standing out...to swim down stream with the rest of the fish. To not rock the boat. It was said out of love and fear for my well-being, not malice but it still hit a chord with me. We are all different and all very similar. Unfortunately persecution and being different go hand in hand and have done since as far back as we've been able to communicate to each other. We think we're living in this free thinking, individual, creativity promoting world. But we don't...we're still fighting wars that started centuries ago. All because of differences. We can't erase all that in a blink of an eye. It sucks I agree but it's a fact of life and I think we can all fight it on our own scale, in our own lives and together make a collective difference. Some people try to hard to be different. What is it you know, and why do you know it? Why was your favorite book written? Why does your best friend, or your boss, value you as a person? Why is this way better than others? It's because it is better for others, which in some cases, is a very small group. The fighting, that you refer to, occurs because of a disagreement of interests... what is wanted of you by others, and what you want for yourself may not be compatible, in which case, you either have to give a little or standup for your rights. Likewise, in order for some of us to live like we live, others would have to continue to do what they do to support that, which for many (textile workers, assembly line workers, anyone who is spending their life doing something less than desirable) means never having freedom or peace, settling for what their society, or even someone else's society wishes of them. How does one find peace with the man who wishes to embrace everyone as they are, if you are the man that believes peace can never be achieved until everyone embraces the truth. In order to accept everyone you need to accept that some will never accept everyone due to the nature of their beliefs.
