Best War Movies ever

Splack!!!!!!!: My favorite war movie of all time is "Full Metal Jacket" released in 1987 by Director Stanley Kubrick set in 1968 Vietnam during the Tet offensive, it was nominated for an academy award and it is a superb film to see with realistic battle field drama as raw as it could get.

abstrectchrist: Full Metal Jacket outlasted the war movies of it's time, only inaccuracy in history in the film really is the choppers they use to transport, at the time they were using Hue's not the british troop transport helicopter they use in the movie. And it's one of the best in all cinema because it shows war from the soldiers point of view, relentless in its resolve, it isn't a protest of it or a "hua!" of it, it's just the conditioning of and the soldier in his dark and depressing world after being born again.

That is why it to me is in fact a tie -- between Apocalypse Now. What dark poetry Full Metal Jacket breathes is finished and continued in Apocalypse Now; when combined with Francis Ford Coppolas classic film making style and (not as photographic, but still just as effective) photographic prowess, it in fact proves to be more effective in some areas as compared to the perfection of FMJ.
