Best War Movies ever (Page 2) Splack!!!!!!!: F. O. O. F. was rich in historical depiction on the era at home and the battle fields. abstrectchrist: ya... but I've seen too much american sides war films. Iwo Jima you can connect with more cause it isn't the usual american sides material. Doodsy: Not sure of you can classify it as a movie, but a doco on the life and career of Robert McNamara titled "Fog of war" is pretty good. Talks a fair bit about his involvement in decisions made in WWII and Vietnam. blancowitch: lol I KNOW!!! hey!... just remembered... "pearl harbour" is a great war movie as well!! abstrectchrist: well, when compared to Tora! Tora! Tora! it's crap cause it had the whole chick flick romance intertwined with the war story. PeopleAreStrange: Pearl Harbor was good but Im not a Ben Affleck fan..If you look close enough during that movie you can see his spit.(like through the whole movie)It grossed me out TMI I know but I felt compelled to share. One of my bad traits. wattle: I totally agree. Gone with the Wind. It's a magnificent film. Had some gruesome war scenes. I watched Kokoda recently. That was pretty good. Gallipoli too. soulsplitter: Gone with the Wind is just like Pearl Harbor. A good Civil War movie? Watch 'Andersonville'. wattle: Pearl Harbour isn't civil war. It's ww2. It's the story about what incited America to start fightinf in WW2. They hadn't played a part until the japanese bombed them. That's what Pearl Harbour is about. soulsplitter: Good Lord. I meant that it seemed to focus more on a love story or two and not the actual fighting. I kinda know how WWII started. And the Civil War. Sorry if I confused you. abstrectchrist: FYI: Gallopoli is a socaial studies movie, it's not that good as a war film.(by socail studies movie i mean it's a movie socail teachers make you watc in class) Splack!!!!!!!: for sure Gone with the wind had some awesome war scenes, realistic in how it was during those dark days of American history Pearl harbor wasnt as good as Tora Bora, not even close but it was a good film i loved Cuba Gooden jr on that film who has seen the deer hunter? abstrectchrist: lol Deer Hunter requires a huge attention span, although it is good, one of the best war stress disorder movies there is. Doodsy: Deer Hunter is one of the best movies ever...not just as a war film. And as far as Gallipoli not being that great a war film....there's a lot of aussies and kiwis that would disagree with ya mate. abstrectchrist: lol i see, wasn't sure if you were australian or not. I can understand why it would be yes. For me it partly showcases the extremely bad strategy of ww1 generals, it's not really a hurra! kind of war film and director did a mediocre job at filming it. Doodsy: That is true....that's the kind of war film I like....same reason why Platoon and The Deer Hunter are also among my favourites. Those kind of movies show the reality of war....the hardship, the pain, the sorrow for everyone involved.....and the fact that you don't always win and end up the hero. abstrectchrist: ah i see. Thin Red Line hasn't been mentioned yet, that's sort of questioning war too but it's beautifully directed and acted. essie87: I love Saving Private Ryan...i always cry when i watch war movies.. i also love this korean movie Taegyukgi(don't know bout the spelling)..very sad.. theMirrorConspiracy: I'm very interested in WWII, especially from the German perspective. So, my favorite war film is Der Untergang (2004) AKA "Downfall". It's German with english subs. An utterly breathtaking masterpiece of the destruction of Berlin and Hitler's final days in the bunker. Never have a I seen a film that conveys so much hard drama in such a direct and relentless manner. You feel the pain for those officers who remained at the whims of a mad man... | Movies Chat Room Similar Conversations |
