which band do you think is legendary (Page 20) struanrobertson02: Another great, great band. Steven Wilson's Raven-H.C.E band, the BEST fucking band assembled in the entire 21st century so far. Steven Wilson - Incredible Songwriter, best songwriter of the decade I dare say. Good Producer, Good Guitarist and Good singer. Has wrote masterpieces in many styles of music, had sucess with many different projects and EVERYTHING he collaborates on becomes better, and he collaborates with the great and as well as the unknown bands such as Opeth, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, XTC, OSI, Marillion, Caravan. Guthrie Govan - Incredible Guitarist, best guitarist ever IMO. He can play any style, any technique and any trick with perfection, I mean ANY. It's insane. Marco Minniemann - Incredible Drummer, Best drummer IMO. Super, super technical and diverse, just as much as Guthrie even. And he has other amazing musicians on his solo career, but these ones are the best. Check out his 2015 album, Hand.Cannot.Erase as it is his best work so far imo, it's 25% groundbreaking, 25% breathe taking, 25% Unbelievable and 25% thrilling. and if you like it then check out The Raven That Refused To Sing, Porcupine Tree's In Absentia and then after those check out his side projects. Cam42: Beatles, Stones, Doors, Zepplin, Skynyrd, Marley & the Wailers, Simon & Garfunkel, Beach Boys, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Hendrix Experience, CHICAGO... Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is legit af The Beatles in my opinion are a head above the rest because they were so ahead of the curve and so natural and most of all they had amazing writers. : ) tolands: Beatles without question. The best of the best. For originality, creativity, innovation and sophistication, they were unmatched. There were other great bands and performers but the Fab 4 set the standard and what they did from 1964 to 1970 will never be topped. struanrobertson02: A legendary band? ABSOLUTELY. But I'm bored so I'm going to shoot down your idea of them being the "Best of the best". Okay here's why I disagree. First of, they weren't sophisticated. Their strong-point was their simplicity and that they didn't need to be a flashy, super technical rock band. They were genius's who crammed innovative ideas into tiny boxes and thus created good, simple songs. Second, plenty of bands matched or got near to the The Beatles' originality, creativity and innovation. The Jimi Hendrix Experiance, King Crimson, Rush, Radiohead and Tool to name a few. Thirdly, they are matched. If you look into some of the lesser known bands of the early 70's and late 60's you can find some really, really good bands that are almost, if not on par with The Beatles: King Crimson, Gentle Giant, The Kinks, Camel, The Mothers Of Invention, Genesis, Rush, Yes and so on. I wouldn't say The Beatles are entirely overrated, but I think they are just really mis-understood. The reason they have such acknowledgment of being the "Forerunners" or the "Creators" of modern music is because they were just the first to be really innovative. They had an head start on everybody else at that period in time. If The Beatles didn't exist then another band (Or solo-artist maybe) would simply drastically change music forever instead, simple as that.
