Who the heck are The Beach Boys?

Place your cloak over a puddle
Bell214: April 6, 1983

Pres. Ronald Reagan’s interior secretary, James Watt, banned all rock 'n' roll groups from the Fourth of July celebration on the Washington Mall. The bands scheduled to play included the Beach Boys, generally considered very wholesome. But Watt said such acts attracted the “wrong element.” ”We're not going to encourage drug abuse and alcoholism as was done in the past.” The president’s wife, a fan, complained directly to Sec. Watt, but he claimed never to have heard of the band.

This pretty well sums it up. Your age surprises me that you know nothing of these guys, but then you do live on the other side of the planet and might've never known of the California culture of the early 60s.Like day and night by comparison today.

Bell214: Malobear, you totally misunderstood this sarcastic thread. A person who has never heard of The Beach Boys is James Watt. Read it again, maybe you'll get it. Your comment is insulting, because I am perfectly capable to do googling by myself, thank you.

Besides, you are not a member of this club.

Bell214: What surprises me is that Mr Watt, who DOES live in the States, didn't know "of the California culture of the early 60s".

Malobear: Black and white text show no sarcastic or serious tones. Your thread shows up under off-topic and open to public view, maybe make them private. The post was not to insult you and sorry if it did. Many entertainers are from europe and unless they get into the U.S. markets,we would know nothing of them. Same thing with U.S. entertainers and the european markets. ZZTop is a fine example. ZZTop had been together since the 60s and was only a national act . No one heard of them even in Canada until 1974-75. Sorry once again for the misunderstanding .

When I was growing up in the sixties, The Beach Boys were on top as were The Doors and others yet my father, a concert violinist never heard of them either. Some folks are not focused on certain ‘topics’ because they are focused elsewhere. I'm sure there are those that have never heard of Itzhak Pearlman or Isaac Stern either.

From youtube…enjoy...

DaniCakes: But the point is, if you're going to reply to a post maybe it's best to read the post and not just the title because it's made clear that Bell isn't asking who the beach boys are...

Hummm...name of thread....Who the heck are the Beach Boys? No you are right, Bell did not ask who the Beach Boys were. She said Watt claimed to have never heard of the band. And I said that there are folks that are focused elsewhere and that I'm sure there are those that have never heard of Itzhak Pearlman or Isaac Stern either. And if you are going to reply, maybe it's best for you to comprehend what others are suggesting.
