What's better - Canada in the summer or winter? tomiko4fun: Personally, I like both. Summer for the beaches, camping, outdoor concerts and festivals, and of course pransing in the nude in my back yard. Winter though, can be fun for other reasons: skiing (downhill and cross country), skating, hockey (go Leafs go), snuggling in front of a warm camp fire, snowshoeing (my latest passion), jumping in the snow after a hot sauna, etc. What are your views? 123: I like both too. It's a refreshing change. In Alberta it seems we only have one month of really cold weather in about February. When people move here from a warm country it takes them about 2 years to adapt but after that they don't feel the cold much anymore. I would rather shovel snow on a cold day than cut a lawn on a hot one! I usually don't even wear a hat or gloves. wooden: for me . I think Canada one of the most beautiful country in the whole world. It's beauty in it's summer .I was there in 2006 in summer. what attracted me a lot the green color in every where. so I think if you wanna see Canada in it's beautiful dress I think it'll be in summer . that's my view . thanks martina: I live on Vancouver Island. So my summer unfortunatly looks a lot like my winter. Winter here on the island is green; yes, but the rain is awfully depressing! Although I must say, our summers are beautiful. Tourists in Victoria are the biggest pain of the year (WHY DO THEY HAVE TO GO SO SLOW). OOOohhhh the days when I lived in Edmonton Ab. I miss tobogganing and snow ball fights, and make-shift igloos... day_dream_believer: I live in Ottawa, and I have to say - it's beyond amazing in the summer and tear worthy in the winter. Everything is beautiful and lovely in the summer, the trees are beautiful, the fountains aren't frozen or missing, the canal is the perfect place to run, and Parliament Hill is stunning. I love it here in the warm months - too bad we don't have many of them, lol. It's all just lovely, though, isn't it? northlover: I agree with a lot of you that Canada is a great place to live for many reasons. However, living in the North has its challenges but I'm anxious for warmer weather and to see the wonders that spring can bring. Is anyone a gardener out there?
alice30: I'm going to have to say summer all the way. There's waaaay too much snow here in the winter. Nobody should have to use a shovel to find their car in -40degree weather in order to get to work in the morning. I hate every second of that!! However, it's very pretty to look at. yobski: I am an odd canuck, i was born and raised in Northren Sask, and I served i lived in NS MB and on Vancover Island and then moved to Alberta I have been in every provence in the country and under the arctic ice. This country is absolutley wonderfull and well worth the sacrifice of ones life to keep as it is. the decision of which is better winter or summer is basically up to what you want to do when you are here fishing is great in the north in the summer and ice fishing is fun too hunting is good and legal in the fall. spring is good if you want to see the wild animals and babies if you are planning on only going to a citty and not actually see this great county that i love come in the summer when there are festivals but winter dog sled races are also good to watch. basically i am saying that there is no bad time to visit this great place the "bread basket of the world" but if you want to see the basket you have to go to the west If you want to see culture from your own country stay in the east. The west has a prime East european background, and the east has french and more muticultural influences. the wild areas are second to none Nightfall2222: Personally I like both. It´s quite a contrast, the cold winters like never seen before (we dont have them here in europe the same way) and experienced that the first time I lived there in Montréal a couple of years ago. Been around a bit in Québec region, compared to the wonderful green landscape of summer that is hot and humid (pouff impossible to sleep at night, and wow never got so sunburned lol) I really have to say I prefer winter. Though as you say, 2m snow in a couple of hours, and have that like 4-6months every week or day shoveling til you break your back or sliding around on 20cm thick ice is quite something!...sure takes a toll on the mood. But I still love the winter over the summer. Though it will all always have a special place in my heart |
