Ridiculations
Ridiculations: I have an iPod touch so I read whatever iBooks are available for free/cheap. I always downloaded really random ebooks though. Just stuff you wouldn't normally find at the store. I had a lot of "Sumerian texts" and a few David Icke books (I'm into the whole demon/reptilian thing).
On my iPod I read a bunch of W.B. Yeats and just other classic stuff.

otcclass2011: I read books via my computer when I have the time but I still also like to curl up at night with a good paperback. I can understand and will not be surprised if all books go towards e-books... At least this way they will not be ruined as easily.... just have to worry about deletion. I just pray that when companies do, do this that someone (some company) will be nice enough to put all the "paper" books on as e-books, too. I know that there are a good quality already but some of the older authors such as Donald Clayton Baker (whom wrote some good native American books) and a few other authors have not been put as e-books yet as far as I know.

chronology: Ebooks are identical to normal paper Books. So I don't see your enthusiasm. As for being cheap, well Classics are all free to download, but modern bestsellers are pricey if you download them onto a Kindle. The real advantage of Ebooks is that you can carry a library around with you in a Flashdrive USB. I have dozens of Books with me all the time. A problem with Ebooks is that if you drop your Kindle and smash it, you loos a lot of dollars worth of books. You cannot make copies of them.

Hyenablood: yeah, the advantage of an ebook or kindle is that you can have lots of books in a nice slim package, saves on tons of space, don't need a book shelf.
Disadvantage is that if the website or internet is having problems, what about your downloaded books ? and the kindle is expensive.
Personally I don't think books will go the way of the dinosaurs, the internet has been around for a long time now, and Chapters is still up and running with lots of books. A person like me enjoys holding a book and reading it, over and over again, without worring about the battery running low and needing to be re-charged, like my ipod.

Qz: I agree. Books have paper, a distinct smell and feel. An Ebook seems so impersonal.

chronology
chronology: If you want free Ebooks, go to 'Project Guttenburg' web site. They have thousands of Books free for download. But the Books are all Classics. The Ebook I think will save the Classics from vanishing all together. 'The Red Badge of Courage', 'The Fall of the House of Usher', 'The Time Machine' 'Heart of Darkness' etc, seem to hold little interest for the modern reader, who seems to be attracted to violence and s~@.

VanWinkel
VanWinkel: I love reading. I have recently discovered a brilliant South African author by the name of J.M. Coetzee. Check him out if you want a good read. He writes real books though, not escapist fiction.

Other than that I still love Joseph Conrad. He is a product of his times for sure but I find his books to contain something special. And to think he only learned English in his twenties and that it was his third language.

chronology: Don't forget CD Books. I was astonished to discover how many Books you get on CDs. They cost next to nothing, a Buck will get you a CD with a dozen Books on. And you can 'Drag n Drop' copy Files onto Flash Drives from the CD.

If you like Audio Books you can find them on C.D. Discs as well. Again for next to no cost. They are all in MP3 Format.

Gone are the days when Europe contained the majority of the Worlds Books. Thanks to Rod and his Web innovators, Books are now everywhere.

Tamm_: I have a Nook Color e-reader. I am really enjoying it. I read many of the free e-books from the B&N website. I also go online to check out free e-books from the library. Many of those books are new. I rarely use my laptop now. I am using it now to post this msg.
