Favorite fantasy book? METALHEAD diehard: I like The Legend of Drizzit. Mistborn triology. burb guys any other fantasy must reads?  Daniel . .: i havent read much and i know that this book :The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne isnt any fantasy but its good .. . ive read it and i liked it totally .  DunLaoghaire: 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series, by George RR Martin is my favorite by a long way. First book in the series is 'A Game of Thrones', made into a TV series recently. Excellent characters and plot with a gritty realism to the world that's rare in fantasy. Also really liked the stuff by Robin Hobb, first book in her series of linked trilogies is 'Assasins Apprentice' though her later books are better written in my opinion. If you like fantasy it might also be worth checking out some science fiction. The 'Culture' series of books by Iain M Banks make for top-notch escapism. First book in the series is 'Consider Phlebas'. Each Culture book is a self-contained story and so they don't necessarily have to be read in order, but they're much easier to get into if you read them in order. oh_good_laughs: I've read some pretty good ones this year. Percy Jackson series was good. The Old Kingdom trilogy was also good. I'm almost thru reading another fantasy called 'The Name of the Wind', so far this is really good, alot of potential =)

And you some thing that fun and light to read try simon r green's nightside books  XiNfAmOuSxInSaNiTyX: Pretty much everything but a select few novels I read are fantasy- all dealing with either Vampires, Werewolves, or both!! Seriously, I'm not sure how much longer it can keep going!! Some already have similarities and now it's just the waiting of a great novel where the storyline is completely unexpected. Like in Twilight- Vampires sparkling and the Volturi thing and all the vampire powers. I don't think those have been done before- not the sparkling vamps anyway. And werewolves? I like 'em if they turn into a wolf, a big wolf, a wolf man, a werewolf, a dog, a shape shifter. Just waiting for something- some novel or writer- to completely throw me and change up the world of writing thezman60: Xinamousxinsanityx i understand what your going thought. Thats why i like to read other types of books beside fanrasty, like cifi, thillers and so on it help to breack the same old same old cuarl: Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan is the best by far. Very rich story line and actually some sense and logic in it. thezman60: Yew Cuarl The Wheel of Time books are the best fantasy world that been created in a long time. I put in the level as Frank Herbert's Dune, The Lord of the Rings. cuarl: yarrr correct. Although I have read Lord of the rings once. Wheel of times serie, probably five times thezman60: im not a big fan of the lord of the rings, but i do like Dune books and the wheel of time is fast becomeing one of those i will read again and again cuarl: Yea Dune was okay. Specially in the beginning, later on it kinda spiraled and became harder and harder to read thezman60: true and his son taking over after was good till they finshed the books the last few i thought really sucked, but the frist 3 books by frank where great DunLaoghaire: I liked the Wheel of Time to begin with, but it quickly became a joke. 4 million words over 13 brick-like volumes (and counting) and about half of it is detailed descriptions of what people are wearing. Nobody says or does anything after the third book without a five-page fashion update. There's a great story there but it makes for a very tedious read. cuarl: I understand what you mean. I felt the same. But after reading that then going on to something shallow and mindless like Harry Potter I really miss the descriptions and the depth it adds to the story. All of these details and things add alot to the multiple sub-plots and the characters become really personal. thezman60: I know when i read a highly detail story i like to read something light to break up the reading stile  St.Jimmy: Easy, Dragon Boy! by Anne B.
