Ever been catfished?
Metaphorguy: If you haven't seen the MTV show catfish, watch it and you'll understand this thread. Basically the show puts online relationships offline by putting two people together in real life. Many times this exposes some type of phony, either the guy or girl. People can hide behind the computer and say they are all these amazing things, but it's harder to do when face-to-face.
Typically it's not exposing online criminals who try and blackmail people, or steal their banking information. Just people that have been chatting for like 2-3 years but never met up. Sometimes the person is just shy but other times....their lies are brought forth. They claim to be rich or successful, use fake photos to appear more attractive, etc.
Ever talk to someone like this? How did you react to hearing the truth?
Aura_: I can't say I've been ever 'catfished' and I have been chatting with people online since the mid 90s when I first hooked up a computer to the internet when I was 14. And in those mIRC days, when there were no profiles, or Skype, or Facebook to stalk and the best you could hope for was a personal homepage on geo-cities without horrible 8-bit music that was supposed to be the X-files theme....it was potentially a lot easier to lie about yourself too.
That's why I don't really like shows like catfish. It gives this distorted idea that everyone lies online, while the overwhelming majority of people you will meet are not lying more than they would if you were meeting face to face (everyone is pretty much guilty of 'enhancing' a story at some point or other, no matter how that story is told)
Metaphorguy: Well yes a lot of people to a certain degree have little white-lies about their age, weight, how much money they make etc. Just funny to see them confronted about it finally. Like these people invested 2 or 3 years of life into someone who's a phony.
RUBY: I have and love that show catfish
helps people understnad that need to be careful with people online
unfortunately not everyone is true
Captain Canada: Those shows are just somewhat not my cup of tea,not worth my precious time or energy, but that's just me,different strokes for different folks.
I have 16 kids to 19 different women,I have a goldfish that barks,a cat that thinks he's Oprah,my new girlfriend believes she's 13 months pregnant even if she only performed oral:/:ex,Barbara Walters is older than mastrabation, the pope wears KKK master hat
Anybody wants to chat for a few months so We can get on this catfish bullshit show so hundreds of people can view so I can make money to buy a bald long haired puppy
Perla B Fat: I met a guy who was a lot older than the 13 he said he was. I really liked him to until I met him. He knew everything about me. All I can say is, girls...always carry a knife. It can be your best friend if things get bad.
Perla B Fat: true true, when the stun gun works. they dont seem to work on guys who are crazy or seriously intent on doing bad. A blade to the dick slows them down every time.
Perla B Fat: Won't kill them, but makes them wish they were dead, and they have a hard time running after you. Later, just burn the clothes and toss the knife.
Captain Canada: Stun gun stops them even the crazy ones, they drop to the ground then you can do as you wish
Geoff: I was catfished by a fellow VTM player, back when I was 17.
She tried to convince me to move to Kentucky to be with her... I almost did, until I found out she was using her daughter's photos as her own and had been lying since the first time I spoke to her.
Since it was an IRC chatroom for playing an RPG, I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised.
Metaphorguy: I enjoyed Castlevania: SOTN but never got into Legacy of Kain.
My catfish story. You know sometimes women take photos at weird angles, to hide their giant bellies. She must have been stretching her neckfat too because she looked big enough to have swallowed the woman I was expecting to meet. That's probably happened to everyone though.
Captain Canada: Well I do have to admit that all 3 women I met on wireclub were the same woman in pictures, just true amazing women
Metaphorguy: I met a woman on here many years ago, but none in the last 5. Can't imagine any woman in here wants a man. Usually they just troll the chatrooms and annoy everyone.
uglycow10: Online cgatting is a great format for peopke to be their alter egos...for invisible , untalented oeopke to present them selves as who they really are not.
However, if you are vigilant and observant you can xRch tgem in their lies...then it is up to you to end it, if you wish
In the end, it is cyberspace, Maya land (land of illusion) and so we should, from the inception, expect our chat pals to be deceptive... Because they can!
I mysrlf tend to indulge them in their lies until I feel like calling them on it
So, in the end, you will get catfishes if you allow it...if you are too reDy to accept what is said to you.
MissAlyssa123: i was when i was 10 by a guy who said he was 13, and he was my bfi never found out until a long time later.
Metaphorguy: Yea right it says you're 18. Maybe in a different number system. Quit trying to get people in trouble
