Make Your Own Barbecue Sauce

harlett anathema: This is the exact recipe i use as the base for my bbq..sauce...

1 cup of ketchup
1/4 butter or margarine
1/3 cup of water
1 tablespoon of paprika
1 teaspoon packed brown sugar..(make your own brown sugar)
1/4 teaspoon pepper black or white
1 medium onion,finely chopped(1/2 cup)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon of worcestershire sauce

heat all of the ingredients in a sauce pan over medium heat, bring to a boil, let simmer for a few minutes...

now customize your bbq sauce....you can add a some garlic powder or fresh minced garlic..

you can add a little more brown sugar...

you can add some red pepper flakes for a sipcey sauce.. just be careful.. you can only add ingredients .. you can't subtract them...

i always have beef and chicken base in my house... for gravies...i will add a little of 1 or the other....by the tablespoon....and i always add any pan drippings i can catch from how i cooked....

no i never baste with bbq when i am grilling..it burns...gets bitter...

here's a example...

i oven roast my ribs...after dry rubbing with my house seasoning..which is only onion powder...garlic powder, salt & pepper....

After i oven roast those ribs i cut those ribs into individualized ribs.. and slip them in a large pot i made my bbq sauce in..and simmer them until they fall off the bone...

you don't haveta wait that long...or go that far.... you can just let them simmer for a few minutes so that they absorb your wonderful bbq sauce...have plenty of paper towels handy...

i don't like bbq sauce made with tomato sauce, tomato sauce..and i don't like vinegar in my everyday bbq sauce...

oh.. and for some tasty burgers.... try using some onion powder along with salting & peppering your ground beef... before shaping your burgers grilling...

huh....i know there is nothing like grilled chicken.so grill it.. then let it simmer for a moment two in your bbq sauce.. so the bbq sauce doesn't burn.....or merely dip into.....

harlett anathema: brown sugar.....is white sugar with some molasses added..rule is....1 tablespoon of packed brown sugar is a tablespoon plus a teaspoon of white.. with some molasses drizzled into.. i use a clean knife that i dip into my jar of molasses.. and drizzle a drop,or two....

if you ask me.. homemade brown sugar tastes less processed then store bought....
