Anyone enjoy silent films or older flicks? How about older shows? (Page 2) streaky: The Boris Karloff portrayals of the monster, even though unfaithful to the novel, were fascinating. Gandhigirl: Gaslight is a good black and white about psychological abuse. Love all Vincent Price. Pit and the pendulum is my favorite. Like to watch old horror films to see the perspective of horror from back in the day. Arsenic and old lace is another great one with a sense of humor. (Edited by Gandhigirl) lightinthedark: I go to an old restored movie house, seen alot of movies from the 30d thru the 50s. The have an intermission and a pipe organ that plays lightinthedark: YES!!!! I saw Young Frankenstein in it's original format in a restored movie house with pipe organ and everything ... sooo awesome Illinoisan: The Val Lewton films from the 1940s are well worth watching, though some have silly titles. My favorite is "I Walked With a Zombie". "The Seventh Victim" and "The Body Snatcher" are also very good. Jean Cocteau's "Beauty and the Beast" is so much better than that Disney animated film, and speaking of French movies, there's "Diabolique", directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. AretoNyx: I like many old flicks but I have got to admit some are really more for their time where they should never get remakes ever. pauldb: go to kino lorber web site They have many classic movies that you can purchase and some that you dont see on tv ronlake57: I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Sergei Eisenstein's silent film: BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN which I think it is the first silent film ever made. Sergei was most known as the father of editing and scene transitions. Illinoisan: Potemkin wasn't the first, but it was a good example of intellectual editing, where Eisenstein put different shots together to bring up ideas. The trouble with the movie is it's communist propaganda. I watched it in several different film classes and grew tired of it. AretoNyx: I find there are some interesting older animations too even if propaganda like. Propaganda does not bother me and I have understanding enough to know better. Sounds interesting. Illinoisan: I just get tired of the commies. I know better, too. I'm not an idiot. The movie's subject matter is garbage, that's all. AretoNyx: Sure but there is many types of propaganda besides what "commies" give or in old WW2 thing Japanese to American based. I never said you were an idiot. Heavysongs: I live on TCM. I watch only ME tv. How about every Hitchcock film. Or John Garfield. Random Harvest with Ronald Coleman? Angels with Dirty Faces? The great Jimmy Cagney??
