deyb_Deb: 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' Released in 1964 by Nina Simone.
Wow Wow Wow I just learned this evening from Wikipedia that this song was "written by Bennie Benjamin, Gloria Caldwell and Sol Marcus for the jazz singer and pianist Nina Simone, who first recorded it in 1964. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" has been covered by many artists, most notably by The Animals, whose blues rock version of the song became a transatlantic hit in 1965. A 1977 four-on-the-floor disco rearrangement by disco group Santa Esmeralda was also a hit."

This is the version I was familiar with up to this evening (2.14.2018), BUT I now also LOVE Nina Simone's recording, which I've posted above.
