StuckInTheSixties: Almost drowned once. My best friend saved me. He was a very strong swimmer and was trained in those techniques for helping someone in trouble. Fortunately, I had the presence of mind not to get panicky or anything, and with his help managed to get to the shore. Had he not been able to help me, I'd have drowned.

StuckInTheSixties: I saved a life once, too. It was at a swimming hole in a creek out in the country. A guy stumbled, fell over hitting his head on a rock. He went into convulsions. I ran over to him, and just as I got over him, he gave a long exhalation, stopped breathing, and his face went blue. I yelled at someone to run up to the road and flag down a car to summon help (this was before there were cell phones). Then I gave the guy mouth-to-mouth resucitation. The third time I breathed into him, he convulsed, and then began breathing again, very labored, uneven breathing, but breathing. Slowly he sort of came back to regular breathing, and suddenly "woke up" frantic, panicking, freaking out. We told him to relax, that help was coming. He got up and ran off. It took 30 minutes for paramedics to arrive, and of course, he was long gone.

Over the course of a few years after that, I'd occasionally run into the guy around town, in bars, etc. It was always the same thing, him profusely thanking me, saying to whomever he was with, "This is the guy that saved my life," and me being embarrassed and sort of wishing he'd stop. It was both a good experience, and an awful experience. I really thought he was gonna just die there right before my eyes.

calybonos: I had a near life experience once.
The paper boy missed my front porch and I had to walk out of my house
and half way down the driveway to get it.
There were people actually talking to each other and everything!
I had to run inside when they spoted me and waved hello...

It was terifying!.........not for me....noooooo thank you!

✯ ℓυcΐ∂ ♡: Yes I have, but there was no light. Nada...Zilch. I am forever grateful to the team of paramedics, doctors and nurses who worked hard to keep me alive. I did my training with two of the nurses that were there that afternoon...We still remain friends to this day. I can still here their voices telling me to hang in there as my eldest was only a toddler.

I think when you have a close call like that it does make you appreciate life and the little things more.
