Did Aliens Do It? ghostgeek: Some people seem to think that aliens are behind just about everything that's happened on this planet. Trouble is, the evidence they use to back up their claims is mostly found on YouTube. Still, it's an intriguing thought that your car not starting in the morning might be due to an alien tinkering with it overnight. ghostgeek: It would seem that something strange has been left behind. Perhaps this explains why all the cats in the neighbourhood are disappearing. lori100: could be....and youtube has lots of truth on it...secrets are revealed there that the govt doesn't want the public to know... ghostgeek: I hope you're wrong Lori. If the world's like it's portrayed on YouTube we're all in deep trouble. ghostgeek: I have to admit, if YouTube is to be believed, some of my neighbours could be visitors from God knows where. ghostgeek: It would appear, according to some, that we have more pressing problems to worry about, the end of religion as we know it. Can't wait for that one. lori100: Some possible evidence....------------Al Ubaid archeological site in Iraq is a gold mine for archeologists and historians. It has yielded numerous objects from a pre-Sumerian time called the Ubaid period (5900–4000 B.C.). However, some of these objects are quite disturbing. A number of Ubaid statues depict strange, lizard-like humanoid figures in unique, unceremonious poses that seem to indicate they were not gods (such as the animal-headed deities of Egypt), but rather a race of lizard people. ghostgeek: The "Anunnaki" are the major players in a paradigm making its way into popular folklore, via the work of the late Zecharia Sitchin, an economist by education and profession, and the author of several best-selling books, including Genesis Revisited, that explore ancient mythology and the mysterious megalithic ruins found around the globe. These various books also seek to demonstrate that there was in ancient times an extraterrestrial race that genetically manipulated mankind for various reasons. The Sitchin thesis ( "Sitchinism" ), now embraced by numerous other writers, who have incorporated it into what is apparently a new worldview, essentially asserts that these ancient Sumero-Babylonian gods, the Anunnaki, are aliens from the planet Nibiru ( Sitchin's "12th Planet" ), which passes by the earth every 3,500 years or so, at which time they planet-hop to the earth and create mischief. [ http://www.truthbeknown.com/anunnaki.htm ] (Edited by ghostgeek) ghostgeek: Here's something to show that not everyone supports Sitchin's hypothesis: You’ll often read, especially in the writings of Zecharia Sitchin, that the annunaki means something like ‘they who from heaven came’ or some other description that makes them sound like aliens or extra-terrestrials. There isn’t a source on the planet by any Sumerian scholar that would agree with that definition. It’s not a difficult term. I personally don’t think that Sitchin knew Sumerian at all because if you’re going to get a term associated with a very group of important deities wrong, I have to wonder what else you’re going to get wrong.” - See more at: http://ancientaliensdebunked.com/references-and-transcripts/anunnaki/#sthash.YTDEUFT5.dpuf [ http://ancientaliensdebunked.com/references-and-transcripts/anunnaki/ ] Another happy hatchet job on Sitchin can be seen at Sitchin Is Wrong.Com. Very tasty. [ http://www.sitchiniswrong.com/ ] lori100: Wikipedia-------In their 1966 book Intelligent Life in the Universe,[23] astrophysicists I.S. Shklovski and Carl Sagan devote a chapter[24] to arguments that scientists and historians should seriously consider the possibility that extraterrestrial contact occurred during recorded history.----------------Shklovski and Sagan cited tales of Oannes, a fishlike being attributed with teaching agriculture, mathematics, and the arts to early Sumerians, as deserving closer scrutiny as a possible instance of paleocontact due to its consistency and detail.[28]-----------------------------------Voyager's Golden Record Contains Akkadian and Sumerian greetings.....(Sagan designed it) ghostgeek: The story of Oannes is told only by Berossus, a late Babylonian priest who related the tale in his Babylonian History, which does not survive. Summaries were made by Apollodorus, Abydenus, and Alexander Polyhistor, but of course none of these survive either. Extracts from these Greek summaries were recorded in Late Antiquity by Eusebius of Caesaria and in the Middle Ages by George Syncellus, whose books are the sole surviving record of Berossus’ work. We know Berossus existed because he is mentioned by other writers, such as Pliny, whose work survives. (Unrelated fragments of Berossus’ astronomical works were also preserved by Seneca.).........reading the passage on Berossus as it currently stands gives us no confidence that it describes an extraterrestrial. In fact, it says nothing about outer space at all: "At Babylon there was (in these times) a great resort of people of various nations, who inhabited Chaldæa, and lived in a lawless manner like the beasts of the field. In the first year there appeared, from that part of the Erythræan sea which borders upon Babylonia, an animal destitute of reason, by name Oannes, whose whole body (according to the account of Apollodorus) was that of a fish; that under the fish's head he had another head, with feet also below, similar to those of a man, subjoined to the fish's tail. His voice too, and language, was articulate and human; and a representation of him is preserved even to this day. This Being was accustomed to pass the day among men; but took no food at that season; and he gave them an insight into letters and sciences, and arts of every kind. He taught them to construct cities, to found temples, to compile laws, and explained to them the principles of geometrical knowledge. He made them distinguish the seeds of the earth, and shewed them how to collect the fruits; in short, he instructed them in every thing which could tend to soften manners and humanize their lives. From that time, nothing material has been added by way of improvement to his instructions. And when the sun had set, this Being Oannes, retired again into the sea, and passed the night in the deep; for he was amphibious. After this there appeared other animals like Oannes, of which Berossus proposes to give an account when he comes to the history of the kings." Such legends prompted Carl Sagan to write in the 1960s that “stories like the Oannes legend, and representations especially of the earliest civilizations on Earth, deserve much more critical studies than have been performed heretofore, with the possibility of direct contact with an extraterrestrial civilization as one of many possible alternative explanations.” Sagan later discounted this when he learned more about myths and legends and why they are unreliable.
