A young lady from Seattle Washington State could sum up her take on the Marble Caves of Patagonia,. 'Breathtaking' , mind you the young lady had travelled a long way to see those caves, from Seattle it is a 15000 mile journey.

Patagonia is famous for its mysterious caves with their strange paintings dating back 10000 years or more. There is also the natural beauty caves shaped by water out of pure marble.

But as said wirreclubbers Patagonia is a very long way from Europe and the United States, so unless you are a young college student from Seattle you may find the trip to the remote caves a real challenge.

The Argentine and Government of Chili who administer parts of Patagonia are trying to make the journey as comfortable as possible for people who just have to see the caves.

Conspiracy theorists reckon there are secret UFO bases hidden amongst the vast and often thinly populated Patagonian landscape. But neither Argentina or Chili have ever reported any discoveries of UFO activity.

If you ever plan a visit to the beautiful and mysterious land of Patagonia keep in mind that the seasons are reversed there from Europe. So if you leave the United States in winter to go there, it will be summer in Patagonia. So remember to take the right kind of clothing.

chronology: 90 years on and Julia Wallace murder still fascinates murder mystery fans.

For Liverpool police there never was any mystery. Julia Wallace husband arranged for her murder. End of story. But after being found guilty he appealed his conviction, and probably to the dismay of Liverpool detectives who were anticipating his execution he was set free.

So why were the police so convinced her husband had killed her? Well a message was left at the chess club William was a member of, he then spent the night of his wife's death walking around looking for an address given in the telephone message. The telephone that was used to call in the message was a short walk from where he got his bus to the chess club. The police were convinced he had made the call to provide an alliby while his paid killer murdered his wife.

But murder buffs still seem enthralled by the mystery. But murder detectives in Liverpool thought he had wriggled his neck out of the hangman's noose.

chronology: Shackleton discovered the Magnetic South Pole this date 1909.

The story that really gripped modern folks was not Shackleton's discovery of the Pole, but the stash of scotch left behind by one of his expeditions to the South Pole. At the time Great Britain and Norway were locked in an dramatic battle to be the first humans to reach the South Pole. Mr Edmunson of Norway won the race. But the Irish explorer Ernst Shackleton recoved at least some national pride for Britain by discovering the The Magnetic South Pole. His team also left behind a crate of scotch whisky which was discovered nearly a hundred years later buried in the Antarctic ice in a shack.
A new race was begun, this time to recreate the blend that was used in the scotch whisky discovered. The blend was found and you can find it today in Shackleton's whiskey.

By the sound of the crate of scotch found, the explorer's certainly took quite a amount of hard liquor with them to keep the cold out.

chronology: Kenneth Arnold. A reliable sort of chap.

When John Fairfax Landed in England after rowing the Atlantic single handedly in 1969 he was sent a message of congratulations by the crew of Apollo 11.
Mr Fairfax like the NASA astronauts was hailed as a hero. But what is not generally known about John Fairfax is that he had an encounter with a UFO during his long lonely journey across the Atlantic. He even believes that the UFO was speaking to him telepathically.

No doubt Newspaper editors decided that too much lone time and harsh conditions had blurred his sense of reality. Why spoil a good story by making him look like a crackpot.
But what is not known generally is that the UFO sighting was identical to many UFO sightings by American and other sailors at sea.

So why was Fairfax dismissed but Kenneth Arnold take seriously by newspapers around the world? The answer is that Arnold was a very credible witness. An educated pilot and an engaging person.
One man commented that news editors at the time were planning to ridicule Arnold and give his story the page 5 position they usually gave such stories. But after listening to him during radio interviews it changed their stance and they decided to present the story to American readers as a serious report.

Most other pilots Arnold told his story to were not impressed. They were convinced he had seen test aircraft of some sort and never gave his story much reflection time. Most other UFO sightings in the United States at the time were often made by people not considered reliable witnesses by the media.

chronology: Still no sign of the SS Andaste

It may surprise some folks that a ship as big as the Andaste could sink in Lake Michigan in 1929 and still be lost 90 years later.

The ship was hit by a surprise storm on the lake and sank. Over the weeks after her loss local folks made grim discoveries of crew members bodies on the lake shore. But no one has yet discovered the wreck.

Americans were making some pretty unkind comments about the Old Girl even before she sank. They called her a really ugly ship.
Come on guy's, we all know that pretty women get all the attention, but old Andaste was a plodder who earned her daily salt on the fresh water lake.

The outbreak of hostilities between Great Britain and the American colonies had seen an opportunistic land grab by European power's hoping to seize British assets during hostilities with America.
Britain had managed to fight off all the attempts to snatch lands, but there had been expensive losses. A hugely expensive convoy of supplies to British forces in America had been hijacked by Spain. One of the biggest losses ever suffered by Great Britain.
Military actions by smaller countries against Britain continued after the Paris agreement. But they were beaten off by Royal Navy ships.

The American war left Britain with debts of 40 billion dollars in modern money. France and Spain had far lower debts from the war. But apart from America, no territory was lost.

The United States had been sympathetic to Ireland in it's struggle for self determination, but the political community in Washington DC never took the step of recognising the new Irish Government. European Government's followed Washington DC in not formally recognising the new Irish Government.

One Irish historian praised London for it's final land reform completed in the mid 60s saying 'Britain left Ireland with the fairest land distribution in Europe,'

A woman raging at shoppers in a supermarket in the United States to repent and accept Jesus in a supermarket has prompted social media debate in the United States.

While many find the woman's outbursts amusing, others object to what they see as ridiculing people with mental health issues. They say it is similar to videoing someone having an epileptic fit for fun.

Other people raised the viewpoint of what would have happened if the woman had been a Muslim. There could have been a tragic ending to the story.

The woman was arrested by police. The video at least has no sad ending. Some years ago a mentally ill man stood in a field with a knife was gunned down execution style by 20 police officers. Riddled with bullet's he died at the scene.

chronology: Kenneth Arnold would be jealous.

Washington State is still a good place for seeing UFOs. And some sightings of UFOs are often spectacular. Last year one man reported an entire Fleet of flying objects entering Washington State via the sea coast. It would seem that the flying fleet had Radar jamming systems as the U.S. Defense networks have not commented on the incident. Although it is not widely known, America also has visual TV defense systems similar to Radar. But the UFOs are slipping past these as well (sneaky little critters ain't they) ? . One man said the UFOs use infra Red jamming lights to blur camera images.

But while Kenneth Arnold made front page with his flying saucer sighting, today's UFO reports are not even mentioned outside UFO web sites.

What on earth is going on? One theorist suggests that UFOs feel secure with Radar and camera jamming technology, they just no longer care if people see them or not.

The USAF cannot give details of their top secret plane's. But Air Force Officials checked their records of test flights and confirmed that there were none of their aircraft in the places with UFO reports at the time.

Next time you are in Washington state keep a watch on the Sky. You never know what you may see there.

The fine folks of China today are very proud of setting records in science and industry. But in 1556 China began setting records that the Chinese people would definitely not want to set.
An earthquake struck China that would kill around 800.000 people and destroy entire towns and districts.
It is the deadliest, but not the most powerful earthquake in recorded history. Chili in 1961 holds the record for most powerful earthquake ever known. But in Chili only a few thousand people died, in China in 1556 800.000 people died almost instantly, buried alive in rubble. A style of housing construction sealed the fate of the victims when homes were built into the side of hills.

The International Conversation controling Opium use is signed this date in 1912. American efforts to control Opium and Hashish were finally rewarded with most of the world's leading countries signing an agreement to control Opium sales in their countries. Pot was left out of the Ban.

Opium and other drugs were widely used up to the end of the 19th century, despite American reform efforts to ban drugs and alcohol. But such development's as the invention of the hypodermic needle, and derivatives of Opium had begun causing concern to many lawmakers, not just puritanical American's.

In England, even Queen Victoria enjoyed Her Pot, and chewing gum laced with cocaine. Sir Winston Churchill also like cocaine chewing gum. But Opium had come to be frowned upon as the pass time of brothel habituating degenerates. Strict alcohol regulations were also enforced, Opium was bundled in with booze in control laws.

More than any other factors, it was the stigma that came to be associated with drugs that led to their criminalisation. Clean cut American's considered any drug users as Scum who should be kept well away from decent normal people. Preferably drug user's should be thrown in prison, was the view of most Americans. Today they are.

chronology: Mr Carter is still alive and well.

First off, better off Moscow shoppers in Russia may be furious at Mr Trump. How could that be? Well they love their California Strawberries and other fruits nuts and vegetables from the Golden Bear State. But politics can make finding their beloved Californian fruits hard to find in high end Moscow store's. Crates of strawberries were flown streight from California to Moscow just for the discerning Russian shoppers.

But what does this have to do with Mr Jimmy Carter? Well a story went round social media that the beloved son of the South had died. When News rooms heard the rumour they showed due diligence and checked with the great statesmans family. Sure enough Mr Carter is still alive.

So how did the rumour begin? Well a Peanut Company announced the death of it's logo and said they would be creating a new one. Georgia, Mr Carter's home State is America's number one peanut State. Mr Carter used to farm peanuts. So they made the connection between the death of the logo and Mr Carter.

Folks in the fine State of Georgia are probably bewildered at how anyone can make such a confused mistake like that.

It's a funny old world.
