chronology: This date in 1961, The Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs is signed in New York City.

For the first time cannabis is made an illegal substance internationally, and laws regarding Opium and Cocaine are tightened.

The Convention would not become Law until 1975 largely because of opposition by the USSR and some other countries who insisted that drug laws should be a matter for each country, not subject to international regulations. Moscow was also uneasy about Drug Enforcement Agents being allowed free access to any country.

Mr Hinckley was obsessed with Ms Jodi Foster. The assassination attempt almost wrecked Ms Foster's life as much as the gunshot victims. She became a heavy drinker and was virtually blamed for provoking the assassination attempt by her acting work at the trial. Friends of Ms Foster felt Hinckley defence team tried to divert attention from him and onto her, even tho she had nothing at all to do with the crime.

chronology: People remembered Rome probably because when the Roman Army left most of the Empire the lands just became filled with violence and chaos.

In England and Northern Europe as soon as the Leagions left the Vikings and their Dragon boats just spread fear and terror amongst people. While the legions were in place they kept the order and generally maintained a settled society. The Romans loved their villas filled with good things and servants. And insisted on peace and quiet to enjoy their home life in.
So when thousands of vikings began their mass extortion and open rape and robbery people just dreamed back of safer times. The Viking Sea pirates gave any land under roman control a wide avoidance. The Roman large Cross Bow in particular seemed to terrify them.

chronology: Atheists consider Eternal life as a possible pleasant idea, so long as there is a suicide option, huh?

While Atheist folks reject any idea of God, they do occasionally debate the idea that there really could be some kind of life after death. Although the majority of Atheists find the idea pure nonsense, others think it could be a possibility. But some are not pleased with the idea.
The chance of being forced to live for ever and ever is even worse to many Atheists as the idea of finding themselves being tormented by an angry Deity. What would make eternity tolerable to many Atheists is a suicide option. Kind of like the arrangement people have in the Netherlands where they can commit suicide in Government facility if they see no reason to go on living.

So an Atheists idea of a perfect afterlife would be a big place that gave them the option to 'Off' themselves if they did not enjoy their life in the next life.

Don't know wirreclubbers, the idea of having a place to Off yourself if you have wrung every ounce of pleasure out of a atheist Club Med in the sky seems a little too perfect, too good to be true. But for many Atheists it makes perfect sense.

chronology: And speaking of life after death.

Wernha Von Braun was a great believer in life after death? Well maybe not.

The Web has many believers pushing the idea that Dr Braun was a great believer in God and the afterlife. Well that is not what Mr Braun actually said.

Mr Braun made a comment in the 1960s that people never really die, they live on for ever. He was actually refering to the Atoms and Energy inside the ecosystem of each person's body. The energy inside each human began millions of years ago somewhere, and when we are dead, the energy inside our body ecosystem will enter Space.

But we are definitely not talking about the Human Brain or consciousness. That dies within minutes of lack of oxygen to the brain.

The actual biological matter of the human ecosystem is used up by germs and insects.

What Dr Braun was referring to was the Atoms and Energy inside people.

But hey, religious zealot's never let facts get in the way of a good sound bite for the media.

chronology: Japan, The Rock Garden.

As one of the most influential nations on earth, Japan never seems to say much about what they believe about life after death. Probably the fine folks of Japan just want to stay out of all the squabbles that go with any religion discussion.

But what do the people of Japan believe about the afterlife?

Well it is difficult for westerners to understand exactly what they think happens when people die. Some people say Japanese folks have no belief in an afterlife, instead they believe in a constant cycle of reincarnation. Curiously, while westerner's who believe in reincarnation often try and have themselves reborn in a rich family, the Japanese are said to hope to break the cycle of reincarnation. Guess that would mean death for good or something.

But many older people in Japan love their Rock Garden with a fish pond. For them, the closest Idea to heaven would be to spend their time after death for ever tending their beloved garden and fish.

chronology: Don't know Blackie, folk's in Asia, like everywhere else are probably bewildered as to just how humans got to living on this planet. The modern Asian Culture of Japan China and India began with creation of the Chinese and Indian languages at Babel in Iraq around 10000 years ago. And the racial set up of the world has remained the same since the Asian people people settled in those parts after the chaotic events at the world's biggest ever building projects. Folks in Asia seem to have lost all memory of the migration from Iraq to their present homeland's. But Babylon never forgot about them and directed the political and religious development of Asia subliminally from the background of their nations. Some of the snake cults and Dragon cults are streight out of the City of Babylon, just wrapped up in local culture.
Like the rest of the world, the good folks of Asia are just piece's in a timeless political chess game being played out among the hidden power Barons in Iraq. When I say 'Iraq' I mean Babylon . The Babylonian Cults have never lost their attachment to their roots in Babylon, no matter how long they have been gone from there. It is like many Australians still think of England as their home, even tho they have been in Australia for 6 generations. Or Spanish people in South America who have been there for hundreds of years still think of Spain as their real home.

chronology: A Sphinx for Belfast. This date in 1912.

RMS Titanic begins her brief sea trials this date in 1912 before sailing to Southampton to begin her ill fated maiden voyage to New York City. But was it Titanic that reached Southampton after leaving Belfast?

Conspiracy theorists insist that Titanic left Belfast sure enough. But in the few days before reaching Southampton the ship was changed to look like The Olympic and the Olympic was changed to look like Titanic.

Well let's look at this claim wirreclubbers. First, was it possible? Short answer is yes. The two giant ships both built in Belfast were identical. There were said to be small differences to both ships, but there is no proof supporting such claims. Virtually all the photographs of Titanic, leaving Southampton are in fact that of Olympic.
All that would be needed to give the ships an identity change would be to Paint over the outside names of the ships, and move the cuttllery from one ship to another. According to some researchers they goofed and left the Olympic lifeboats on the ship.
Think of it this way wirreclubbers. Your kids get on a school bus everyday. How would you know it is the same bus? You never would, they all look the same. In Belfast it has long been discussed that this happened.

There are some telling points as to just what did happen out in the Atlantic a week later. For example, the boilers of the Olympic were well used and a year old. Titanic's were brand new. So the boiler crews must have suspected something was wrong. Another point was that Olympic had a slight tilt of 2 degrees. Titanic, somehow developed a 2 degree tilt before leaving Southampton.

But did Titanic really hit an iceberg? It seems likely it did, but the injuries to the Hull seem consistent with a previous crash that weakened the entire backbone of the ship. In Belfast Olympic was described as having a'broken back' they advised that the ship never be run at full speed.

Hmmm now that sounds like a ship that would rupture all over the place if it struck an iceberg. Which is what the ship that sank in 1912 did.

It is still unclear just what caused the invasion by Argentina, but some researchers believe a dispute between British and Argentine Naval craft had become violent a week before the invasion. chronology: President Reagan urged generosity towards Argentina.

As British Forces were closing in on a defeated Argentine invasion force President Ronald Reagan telephoned Prime Minister Thatcher to request that she show a spirit of generosity towards the Argentine Junta. Mr Reagan asked Prime Minister Thatcher to sign a truce with Argentina rather than accept a notice of defeat. He requested that Argentina be given equal status in governing the islands and that ownership be shared between Great Britain and Argentina. Mrs Thatcher was bewildered by the request.

The most likely people in Washington DC to have requested such an agreement was Washington's political community who viewed Great Britain's occupation of the Falklands as a permanent trigger for tension between the two American Allies. But the problem Mrs Thatcher faced was the popularity of defeating the Argentine invasion amongst Britain's public. The Falklands war had been almost like a Rock concert in Britain with people cheering air strikes on Argentine shipping and applauding ground victories. Mrs Thatcher could not possibly have just handed over the Falklands without facing a huge public opinion backlash.

The United States however saw the war as an opportunity for future peace in the South Atlantic.
