chronology: This date in 1935 across the South West of the United States millions of people look on in constination as a giant cliff of dust rolls across the landscape in the worst day of the Dust Bowl era. Cars were trapped on roads, locomotives came to a stop, people got lost in their own back yard as visibility ended. Millions of bird's dogs cattle and other animals choked to death in the thick clouds of dust. Billions of tons of dust piled up like snow drifts across towns in the South West.

Congress was prompted by the disaster to create the Soil Conservation Act.

chronology: It was a disaster for folks in the Midwest. But America is one of the few countries that has recovered lost land. Big High Five to Washington DC for their hard work at reclamation over the year's.

The Soviet Union had some total disaster region's at the same time as the USA. But unlike Washington DC the Soviets just wiped out all memory of their mistakes from the history books. In one case an entire desert region was destroyed to grow cotton, at the same time an entire lake hundreds of miles from the desert was wiped off the map to destroy the desert. Both region's were abandoned after they were no longer needed.

Curious point. We often have sentimental memories about folks from Oklahoma and their distressing experience during the Dust Bowl. But according to U.S. statistics Oklahoma folks were only 20pc of the economic refugees that flooded the tent cities of California.

Fellow Americans in the North East would probably observe that it is never good to live in'intetesting time's' , whether you were in California or the Midwest back then.

chronology: National Parks effected by lockdown.

Accross America the nations National Parks are coping with the corona disruption as are all other Federal Agencies.

But if you are a fan of the Parks you can still be a part of the Parks experience by funding a project on Go Fund Me Web site.

Just tap in National Parks Service and a number of Projects come up. These are not Official Parks Service projects unless stated as such. But are by people who are sharing a common interest in the Parks.

A project that seemed exiting was a 'save the Wolves' run to help wolves in one park. It has closed for donations now, but kind hearted folks had sent in around 16000 dollars to help with buying tracking equipment etc.
Wolves are not everyone's cup of tea but they are vital for the eco system.

America will be badly hit by the Parks shut down. Millions of people around the world have fallen in love with the breathtaking beauty of American parks and cultural places such as Alcatraz and Ellis Island. The Gay community have been overjoyed at seeing The Stonewall Nightclub in NYC added to the Park Service sites.

But if you can't get into the parks this year check out the Go Fund me site and see if there is a Park Activity you would like to help with.

chronology: The Robot's cell phone Network.

Well we now have 5G up and starting to be taken up by phone users. It is way faster for game players and movie fans, people will be sending ultra HD media selfies to friends in a matter of seconds.

But soon 6G will be here with even faster and vastly more data capacity. But even folks who have to have Ultra HD phone videos of the Golden Gate Bridge sent live from the sunset scenery of San Francisco will probably wonder just what people will need those kind of data speeds and load capacity for. The answer is'people' will not be using 6G Robot's will be.

AI and Robot's moving around in cities and highways in the future are expected to need heavy load data carriers to enable them to function autonomously and quickly. 6G can provide them with instant access to data allowing them to carry out functions without any human involvement at all.

chronology: This date AD70 Roman Leagions restore order in Judea after a revolt by Jewish fanatics. The fortress of Massada which was a rebel strong hold was finally destroyed by the X Leagion.

Curiously, the Jewish fanatics slaughtered almost as many Jews as Romans in their crazed revolt against the government in Judea. Before hostilities had begun the fanatics made a sneak attack on a Roman Detachment cutting the soldiers throats and stabbing them in the back. According to some accounts the rebels dressed up as women to carry out the attack.

chronology: This date in 1947, The Texas City explosion.

While many folks consider Hiroshima and Nagasaki explosions to be hoaxes and exaggerations, there is definitely no exaggeration about the explosion in Texas City. A ship load of ammonia nitrate exploded in the biggest man made explosion in American history. Around a thousand people are thought to have died in the massive blast.

chronology: 'Up from under' .

If you enjoy scenic walks in many Northern States like Washington and Oregon you have probably noticed those huge rocks, some weighing in at a few thousand tons sat there half buried in soil on the landscape. It is agreed by many experts that the rocks were carried to their current location inside giant Icebergs that were pushed along by the Great Flood of 1200 years ago. But since the huge rocks have been noticed and speculated on how they got to where they now rest, country walkers in Washington and Oregon have noticed other odd features that now seem to have been formed around the same time as the huge rocks were dropped off by supertanker sized icebergs. 'Ripples' in the landscape. If you walk along many beaches on the coast you will notice that the sand is patterned with tiny ripples caused by the eb and flow of the tide. Those patterns are an inch or two high. But the ripples in Washington and Oregon are 50 feet or more in height and thousands of them stretch out across the landscape giving a snapshot of the direction of the Great Flood waters direction 12000 years ago. And it was not just Washington State that was being gouged over, the same ripple patterns are noted in Siberia.

But the plot thickens wirreclubbers. NASA have had photographs of regions of Mars for decades showing what NASA expert's always believed were sand dunes caused by the strong sand storms on Mars. But some experts now insist that the ground ripples on Mars were formed exactly like the ripples in Washington State and elsewhere on earth.
This is a controversial view, to have catastrophic flood ripples you need water. So the suggestion is Mars had water, a lot of it, as recently as 30000 years ago.

The floods that rolled over the Northern USA 12000 years ago were around 1000 feet deep. But the ripples in Washington and elsewhere in North America seems to have been formed by outburst currents being forced from under the icecaps at the time.

If more facts are discovered then it may lend credibility to the theory that the Flood account in Genesis is recording at catastrophe that involved the Solar system 12000 years ago, not just earth.

chronology: Cruise ship bookings up for 2021.

Well with all the economic Doom and Gloom you would think most folks are tightening their belts and getting ready for hard times ahead. Nope, they are not, people are booking up for ocean cruise ship trips starting next year. In fact, more people than ever are putting down good money to pay for the holidays trips at sea.

Huh? Sorry wirreclubbers, I must be missing something. With millions out of work and even homeless with this Corona Crisis, who are these millions of people paying for luxury holidays in greater numbers than ever?

Zanjan: I never saw what the big deal is with cruise ship vacations - I won't be suffering if I never take one, or any other luxury vacation. Being waited on hand and foot aint my idea of "fun", and posh surroundings are amusing to look at for 5 minutes tops.

I will say not having to cook is really practical because it frees one up to do fun things. I'd only enjoy meal service if the food is gourmet stunning and ethnically spectacular, not the usual fare. I'd rather pick a ripe fruit straight from the tree myself and let that be my meal.

chronology: Never been on a cruise Zan. Closest to that I've had is an overnight ferry and a warship. The ferry is just basically a cabin for a night's sleep and then next morning you are collecting your baggage and gone. Big advantage over an aircraft is that you can bring way more luggage, even motorcycle or car. You hear some weird arguments at the docks sometimes. A man with a van once was totally indignant at why he had to pay for his Van as a Cargo carrying vehicle. The man selling tickets at the dock explained it was classed as such. But he said it was empty so how can it be charged for carrying nothing? But rules are rules and he had to pay premium rate to get his van on the ship. The thing I enjoyed most about ferry trips is the sound of the diesel engine, and smell of the huge engine and it's waves of heat it gives off. Most folks don't realise how big the engine's are, they are as big as a house. The vibrations from the pistons can be felt in whole engine Room.

As for warships, if it's a short journey and the weather is pleasant you just sleep on the deck. But don't expect a good sleep. The ship always runs into swells or something and you are woken up.

Don't know tho Zan, a luxury cruise does sound nice for folks who would fit in in that kind of social crowd. Am not saying they are snobs but they are comfortable with their own crowd.

Zanjan: Personally, I prefer canoes, rafts and zodiacs. I think ocean swells would make me puke but I love rapids - so much screaming fun, no matter how wet you get.

Yeah, I've taken a few ferry trips too (short and long but not overnight on ship); very windy on deck but enjoyed skipping between islands on the warmer, pacific side. I like the ferry because you're close to the water, have control of where you're going, no packing required, and you can take your pets (they stay in the vehicle) I don't recall the sound of engines after the start up. Maybe the wind ruled.

Once, I was traveling though Ontario and took a ferry across Lake Huron between Sault St Marie and Owen Sound. I was in the kitchen kiosk, eating fresh clam chowder, when an American woman next to me started up a conversation. She said, " I"ve been to Canada once, didn't like it".

Maybe should have posted that in the "lost in a lost world" topic.

chronology: Freemasons told not to give a 'Brotherly Hand shake'.

Well it is coming to something when even Freemasons are forced to change traditions. But the international fraternity is advising members not to give a secret hand shake to people in order to avoid spreading the corona virus. Masonic meetings with Brother Masons is also on hold until the end of the isolation order.
Masons have quick like they always are to donate money to hospitals and charity work during the global crisis. Masons have also ended centuries of tradition by going digital so they can send Emails to lodge members and support brother Mason's in these stressful times.
Some American masons have logged off social media after many members names and addresses were discovered during on line meetings.

Hopefully tho, lodges will obtain secret encryption software to help respect members priversy.

Maybe Freemasons could even build their own 'light Web' as apposed to the Dark Web. This way they could have their own confidential network, without having to use the Dark Web. Most masons would be horrified at the pornography and dating sites on the Dark Web. Strict Morality is fundamental to membership of Masonic lodges.

chronology: An odd story about a canoe Zan. One time on a river somewhere I fell off a canoe. Didn't bother me but then I noticed that the current was carrying me fast as anything away from the canoe. I had a life preserver on and it seemed to get carried along fast as anything, while the heavy canoe just drifted along heavy and slow. The river was miles from anywhere so could have got lost or tangled in the Riverside vines and roots. No wonder folks get killed in weird ways.
Swam like a hero and beat the current to get back to the canoe. Remember crossing a jungle river one time and we used floatation bags to move the rucksacks and rifles and machine guns over the river. Every flotation bag tipped over and we had to drag the rifles and ammunition and rucksacks out of the water.
No Zan, sorry but I don't find water a fun thing. What used to amaze me was the guys who drank River water without straining and sterilising it. They just scooped up cups of the tropical river water and drank it streight down. Decades later some of those people are getting ill with the bugs and worms they guzzled down in the water. Only got themselves to blame.

Zanjan: Chron, the Masons are likely using Skype or Zoom for their meetings - everybody else is.

Your water adventure must have been terrifying; glad you made it through ok. Never thought of you as having been a soldier. You'd think the first thing a soldier would be taught is not to drink river water. Even I knew that as a kid.

chronology: No offence to most of those guys zan, but they are not as bright as you are. They probably thought because they couldn't see anything in the water that there was nothing in it. They had never seen a microscope in their lives and never watched TV much. So they just gulp down the water happy as a dog.
Am a little puzzled why it takes decades for the worms to be noticed and cause health problems.

chronology: This date in 1865 America holds a Funeral Service for 'Old Abe' at the White House. Word of the Great Man's death has yet to reach Europe due to the Trans Atlantic cable being broken.
Officials in Washington DC were more 'Sttiff upper lip' so to speak, and had to carry on Government in a business like way due to the National Crisis. But the American people were given the opportunity to show their respects to the deceased President. As historians comment, most of America, and much of the European world were deeply affected by Mr Lincoln's assassination. It was as if they had lost a dear friend.
