CHRISTMAS BLUES....

uglycow10
uglycow10: I am always bewildered as to why some people feel so morose, melancholy defeated and unhappy around Christmas time.
I have always invited friends who I feel might be spending it alone...and on occasion, a friend or two have invited themselves..
I have spent one or two Christmases alone and I have been quite content.
Care to share?

Magz Rides Again: I love Christmas for the fact that my born was born on this day. I hate it for the fact that I have to allocate time to my blood family with whom I have nothing in common. For the sake of my mother who is elderly, I go. Otherwise, I wouldn't.

uglycow10: on that most special of days why would you choose to be around people you don't like? You can always meet up with mom and do things with her.
I would not ever choose to spend my christmas with people I dont know...or have nothing in common.
On that day most people are making lovely memories...and enjoting being with family.

uglycow10: I THINK THAT IT IS VERY HONOURABLE OF YOU TO MAKE THE SACRIFICE, JUST FOR MOM , SOMETIMES WE JUST HAVE TO MAKE SUCH SACRIFICES.
AT LEAST YOU WILL HAVE A CLEAR CONSCIENCE KNOWING THAT YOU DID RIGHT.
BY HER. I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD HAVE HAD THE INTESTINAL FORTITUDE TO DO THE SAME....

wildrose62: Some friends of mine had a lovely idea... they have a party on Christmas Day for any of us who are spending it alone, or who just want to share the day. Some went because their kids were spending Christmas with the "other" parent that year, some older people without families were regulars, others dropped in for a while between other Xmas Day commitments. Anyone who went took food and drink, and whoever was still there in the evening helped them clean up.
I went to a few of them and then started my own - inviting close friends and family who were passing through on the way to holiday destinations to come. Sometimes we had ten, sometimes thirty. It was hectic and lovely and lots and lots of fun.

briansmythe: I thought the whole message of Christmas was to spread cheer and good will amongst fellow man kind especially the poor , And an extra time for Kids to learn about Christianity and how Jesus was born not when , Its symbolic That's the way I remember it before It turned into Comericalised Gift giving
Gotta beat the jones next door type stuff, lol I think that's why people get so stressed out

uglycow10: I totally agree with you Brian. I believe that most people have forgotten what Christmas is all about. As a matter of fact , tonight as I was driving, I was listening to someone explain about the Christmas campaign," toys for tots", and how important it was was them to have toys so that they did not feel left out because their parents were too poor to supply the toys.....and I thought:
Did these kids even ever step into a church? Go to Sunday school? Have the parents ever taught them about God, and the reason why we celebrate Christmas?
MY thought at the moment was, who the heck cares if they don't have a toy???????
That is not what Christmas is all about.!

However, that having been said, whether we like it or not, there are those human casualties...something which we cannot ignore..
Thus, hats off to Wildrose for making an effort to do her part towards making so many people feel included.

I suppose that in the end, it is what it is.....it is like going to a birthday party and totally ignoring the guest of honour....and making it all about you, because you are not having a good time.......

Magz Rides Again: Most of my family go on to another family do in the evening with cousins. My son and I go home and celebrate his birthday together with homemade cheesecake (choc-mint) and other things. On occasion we've had friends drop in for a very chilled night. It's the best part of the day for us.

Magz Rides Again: Not for me. I do try to live by the philosophy "Smile and be courteous to those you meet. You don't know what's going on in their worlds and your smile may be the only smile they get all day." I do this, especially, for people in customer service as they often encounter people who aren't so pleasant.

wildrose62: Uglycow, I think we get so busy in our day to day lives - work and looking after family and homes etc, that we sometimes forget that we don't have to wait for Christmas to have people around us - all we have to do is invite them over for coffee or dinner, or to go out with us. A cup of coffee and a biscuit doesn't cost much, but it can really make someone's day.
