Zanjan
Zanjan: Islam civilized the Eastern pagan nations that Christianity couldn't. It built a Holy Place where neither Judaism or Christianity could and, still attracts more devoted pilgrims than any religion before it.

Islam advanced science, technology, philosophy, medicine and economic development, and produced wonderful cultural works. It built hospitals and provided free health care to the poor. It introduced a new and easier writing system and fine paper; as a result it was the first time in history that anyone could make a living writing and selling books.

Islam was heavy on scholarship........nobody beat the seriousness of their religious study, quality of schools, and lofty conversations, which every member participated in. They treasured mystics. Islam, for the first time in history, provided political protection to other religions. Mulsims taught the world it wasn't enough just to pay lip service.

The Golden Age of Islam influenced the rise of the Renaissance in Europe; people wanted what the Muslim world had so attempted to imitate it. We call it keeping up with the Joneses.

Speaking of which, have you noticed the traditional Catholic Nun's habit is identical to the burka?

Zanjan: Easy - 'cause I don't like playing dress up. No offense intended to those who do.

I mean, a long robe that covers the body does make for an easy and fast wardrobe choice - one never has to ask, "does this make me look fat?". However, it's crappy for manual labour, especially gardening unless it has huge square pockets. With a head scarf, you never have to worry about the shape your hair is in, especially in the wind, and you save money by not patronizing styling salons but, it's just too uncomfortable to wear and makes you go nearly bald in time. There's advantages and disadvantages to everything - that's the cultural aspect of the majority of Islamic denominations. (some don't wear any peculiar apparel)

Religiously, it's such pretense in any religion that bothers me. I don't care to draw attention to myself but if I have, I hope it would be through observation of my natural demeanor and attitude, where someone would say "That person is a Baha'i". One should be heightening their level of perception, not lowering it via material distractions.

However, most people outside of the Middle East still have never heard of Baha'is. How could they know? Only a few will spot the ring on my finger, not knowing what it meant and even fewer will ask. That said, when they come into close contact with me, it's not by my looks or culture that they discover I'm internally different from the norm.

Besides, the Promised One has arrived. I was ready.

Zanjan: We have plenty of Muslims here - notice they're not running away from anything; even if they originally arrived as refugees, they didn't denounce Islam.

Do you have something against God for bringing Islam to an ignorant and Christian-oriented society?

hornchurchmale: its about submission to an ideology not a 'god' theme . Koran was only written after many of Islamic leader s got killed in battles and concept was. dying out! a fire also burnt over70% of the original writings so was rewritten hence. so many conflicting sections!
if we examine Mohammed .we can see he was in fact a very nasty. person with more than questionable acts etc sadly Religion seems to be responsible for more deaths than disease!
if concept of a god was banned and particularly an supposed 'afterlife'. how would humanity act towards each other ? with no particular God concept to shove. down peoples throats!

Zanjan: If she had any backbone, the Arab girl would have stood up in front of her parents right at home and denounced Islam - only a coward flees to a safe place to open their mouth. She wasn't a rebel in any sense of the word - rebels have honour and guts.

She secretly ran away, leaving her parents worried sick.... so, maybe a little prison time might turn her into a responsible adult. Dubai? Spoiled little rich brat.

Zanjan: Ghost, we're getting one side of the story - is it possible she only wanted to renounce Islam? You don't have to DEnounce a religion to leave it. Muslims really don't want atheists in their religious community. They have full power to excommunicate anyone they wish, even in Saudi Arabia. Maybe she was more frightened of her parents, huh?

Zanjan: I understand there's one exclusion for apostasy - that is, if the person had become a Muslim under duress or compulsion - that is, involuntarily. Of course, they'd have to make a legitimate case.

Saudi's consider that anyone born to a Muslim IS a Muslim automatically so that excuse isn't acceptable to them....have no idea why because the offspring had no choice. That one country is quite backwards in its perception of religion, the laws of God, and the streams of love, doesn't mean Muslims elsewhere are.

Maybe you recall that Jesus was put to death for NOT being Jewish enough, for saying things the Jews didn't approve of. They saw Him as an apostate; although He'd kept every law, He was accused of blasphemy. Other Christians were marytred for the same reason, but mostly by the pagans.

Fast forward to Babi's and Baha'is in Iran - the identical scenario. Tens of thousands of Babi's and Baha'is have been martyred by the establish Muslim hierarchy. They were given a choice - renounce the Bab and Baha'u'llah and come back to Islam or die. They made their choice so were put to death.

What's the difference between that and what you see in Saudi Arabia? I'll tell you - no one among the Saudi's is willing to risk their life for the love of God. Don't you think they're waiting to see that? Maybe you don't realize what happens when they do.

The stage is set - not a hero among them.......yet. That will change but not so dramatically as it did elsewhere.
