Parents of children with special needs.

kkolberg: My child has mild-moderate autism. Wondering if there are other parents on wire who also have a child/children either on the spectrum or with other special needs.

rhorgan: My son is two and a half and he might have apraxia.

kkolberg: What is apraxia?

rhorgan: Apraxia is where the brain doesnt send the right signals to the muscles in the mouth to form certain letter sounds.

kkolberg: Ty... Has he been in therapies? My son has intensive in home therapy and has made remarkable leaps. We are currently working on potty training. Yikes!

rhorgan: Yes he is. He currently has speech therapy twice a week and behavorial therapy. He has made some progress in a year.

toshia419: My youngest is autistic and my oldest has aspergers. I've worked with preschool children ages 3/6 with special needs. If you need any advice on toileting let me know.

kattyaw1993: What are some of the challenges you parents face with raising children with special needs?

JaadedIce: I have a 15 yr daughter that was born with severe medical special needs had cancer and organ transplant and a 11 yr old with severe ADHD that puts her on autism spectrum. The best advise I can give any parent is therapy, don't over dose your child, schedules and patience. I love my girls and being a single mom. God Blessed me with their beauty, their Love and they are both are very positive and loving. It's hard but trials and tribulations teaches us. Get in a group with others parents, it helps to be around people that are going through what you deal with. Love yourself and your family. Have faith, strength and a positive attitude. That's the best advise I can give you. God Bless.

JaadedIce: They are in your life for a reason, just as they you are in theirs. They need guidance, love, strength, structure. As any child needs. Ours just needs a little more. But the reward is great katty. I promise. Its frustration can be hectic, but one day you will see how that small seed will blossom and be amazed. My daughter reads at 10.5 grade level and she in 6th grade. Remember I told you she on autistic spectrum. Their talents are there just hidden for now. God bless. If you like msg me your welcome too.
