charging your teen rent while in school? (Page 3) foosquad: The very idea is preposterous to me. If anything, I'll go out of my way to set my children up for financial comfort and success. wayne elliott: Maybe if they are working, charge them 10% of income. Put it aside for them (don't tell them) and when they are ready to leave home, present them with those savings. They're gonna need it out in the big wide world, and they will also see the benefit of saving. SuperNovanika85: have them pay for their cellphone bills I guess.. if you were in a financial struggle- and they can help pitch in- I guess it will work out.. but how old is the kid anyway...maybe he or she is spoiled!? My husband had to pay for living with his parents since he was 13 and that was pretty fucked up. There was no punishment whatsoever- but back then his parents didn't care and were pretty selfish and mentally abusive, he moved out at 19. You're the parent it's really up to you. Times like these are hard to come by though. (Edited by SuperNovanika85) beinygirl: when my sisters and I went to school we never had to pay rent or utilities. We did however have to have a part-time job. we did have to pay for gas for the car that we all shared, we had to pay for our own cell phone bills and we paid for all the things that our parents wouldn't give us money for.....I will support my kids the way my parents did. If they need a place to live while in school then I will provide that for them free of charge but I will only ask that they have a part time job and they save their money while in school. After school is done then its their responsibility to secure a full time job and a place of their own to live......then mom can go on vacation!! | Parenting Chat Room 39 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
