Define a "Soul"

LiptonCambell
LiptonCambell: I promise I won't post in this thread, if people feel that's important. I just feel that, in many of the "Soul" discussions, what exactly is a soul is often ignored.

Whats my definition of a soul? Essentially, your personality. You personal thoughts, preferences, and quirks that make you you. Equally, I believe this is physically stored in the brain, and requires a living, working brain to keep the soul alive. I believe this because if someone becomes brain damaged, their personality changes(assuming they can still function), and a vast majority of your bodies energy goes towards keeping that brain running- if the brain is an unnecessary, since you can "exist" without it, why would so much of your body be devoted to keeping everything running smoothly?

Look at the example of Phineas Gage- an American railway worker who accidentally had a railway spike shoot through his brain- it shot up through his jaw, mashed through the left frontal lobe, and shot through the other side. This damage caused him to have a severe personality change, to the point where his friends claimed he was no longer the same person.

harlett: what would make a soul stink is the acts actions motives of any past life choices it made...........

what's silly is not believing in evolution on all levels to maturate..............
aren't you confusing the myths of there being a grandpappy/sugar daddy god.. along with all will be forgiven..... with anything said by anyone who so ever that isn't mocking these topic's.............................

not mistaking me for a roman catholic ...... or some christian hypocrite.....are ya..........

Corwin: No. I just like saying silly things.

But now on further reflection on my comment, I think based on your hypothesis it would only be the last breath that would be stinky, notwithstanding the effects of gingivitis.

Serabi: I believe that the soul is a ‘wholeness of being’. As with everything else, nothing is completely static and the soul develops with us. We listen to beautiful music (different for everybody) and ‘it touches our soul’. You know that you have been touched, but you do not know where.

Some individuals are just ‘surviving’, i.e. living from one meal to the hard-fought next. When the basic human needs are satisfied, looking inwards helps you develop and grow an ‘ethereal consciousness’. You cannot describe a feeling which stems from within and can ‘give you goose bumps’ because of its beauty.

No, I cannot describe the soul. Albeit, my flippant answer to someone, asking me why I can’t believe in religion is – “I don’t have a hole in my soul”. I think, therefore I am – I am, therefore I think.

To the brain being involved, I think that is more Personality.

Look at the first sentence of the thread- this is a no-lipton zone. I'll be reading, but I won't be contributing. Sorry, but you can see my thoughts in many, similar threads throughout the website....

CoIin: If we have a soul, does it have a memory?

If so, memories up to when? i.e. if I'm 30, does my soul have memories up to then, or memories of the future too?

And if I have an accident and lose my memory, does my soul lose its memory too?

shadowline: The soul is an entity's essence, what it exists for. The soul of a hammer is hammering. The soul of a knife is cutting. The soul of a human being is: thinking. No other living entity has that soul.

i'll say it out loud again..

your "soul " is your breath it will bring along with it what ever experiences you had that define you and your choices from another life experience and it is what will transport your "essence of being" from this life experience into the supernatural where it it will materialize you into your spirit form..

thor1112010: The soul is a primordial energy aspect. It is created by the material plane, and I suspect that it returns to it. It remembers everything it experiences. It is aware. It begins the journey to its fate.
