Waverid3r: Thats True for most, but for others Death would be a relief to some or very few who might be in pain, or elderly, or (very rare) tired of this world and the people in it, and see death as the end
to life of ignorance and greed of other people.

Life for some is worse then death, whatever maybe after life, whether nothing or something.
Death may be the peace that some are searching for.
I am not promoting suicide, thats NOT the meaning of my thought, it is more to not fear death,
but accept that it will happen. whether sooner or later.

silvermoon15061990:

Are you afraid of dying ?

I'm sure that everyone's afraid of dying (including me). The fact is, nothing and no one lasts forever so we all will have to accept that. It's just the matter of time, soon or later. Worrying about death too much will just make us feel depress. What we can do now is just to enjoy each day and do our best.

Death is completely out of our control. I've accepted that. I'm trying to treat each day as if it were my last. May be it's better not to worry about things we can't control. It's natural to be afraid of death but if we let that fear control our life we won't be able to enjoy it.

But I find myself practically obsessing about the fact that one day it'll be over. No more tomorrows, nothing. I believe in God but on the slim chance there's no heaven the thought of dying terrifies me. I know there's absolutely nothing I can do about it, but at last days I've this thought. I've thoughts about death and I'm afraid of dying young and without full filling my purpose.

I'm sure everybody goes though this at least once in their lives. But somewhere, sometime, someplace, we have to go. On other hand I believe in reincarnation. I believe that we are put here to learn certain lessons, and that we'll continue our education in the next life.

There is no one I can talk to about it. Let me know your thoughts.

Godzirra: In my opinion it isn't death thats so frightening, it's the unknown.
Humans spend their entire lives answering questions, we crave knowledge.
Death stares us straight in the face, unanswerable and unavoidable, it clearly scares the hell out of most of us. Thats why we have religion, whether you believe or not, its an acceptable answer to the question "what happens after we die?"

HardcoreHerbivore: On the topic of fear of death, I agree that it is an innate characteristic in animals like sexual desire.Without sexual desire and the fear of death,we might not survive as a species.

Michelle,I also believe in reincarnation, but it scares me much more than death does.

As a small child I have had reoccurring nightmares of death. In one dream,I was a French soldier lying among the dead bodies of my fellow soldiers(I was hiding, pretending to be dead)while English soldiers were stabbing the bodies with bayonets to make sure they were dead.In my other reoccurring dream I would drive a car off of a cliff.Could it be that a fear of death is made stronger from memories that we carry from past lives?

I also agree that fear of death can have negative consequences because it can motivate people to grab all that they can(sex, money)without any regard for anybody else. However I think that fear of death can also have a positive influence if we look at it form a compassionate viewpoint. That fact that we are all slowly dying is a good reason to have compassion for each other.

Lazarus65
Lazarus65: Why worry about death which comes to all in its own time with its own lessons. Better to fear A life not lived. Fear ,ignorance, hate , prejudice. They all prohibit us from living and loving as well as learning. Death is mearely a transition between lives, a time to reflect on our lives and the connections we made ,the nature of those connections and the depth of those connections. I can only speak from my own experiences when I myself died at the age of four. I'm sure sceptics will want to refer to the biological process of death and the depletion of O2 or even the presance of DMT in the brain. But none can explain why a 4 year old child remembers things that occured long befor he was born. I follow no religion, but believe in god. The greatest tragedy of religion has been the doctrine of death and punishment. Why would any god create the human to live 70 to 100 years simply to die and disapear. and then creat the soul to cohabitate with said human and then wait in limbo somewhere for a distant judgment. There is a symbiotic relationship between the two, the human animal with its selfish pleasure seeking, instant grattification, flesh pleasing ,irrational, primate that it is , seeks only to please the animal within, our basest nature, Paired with the soul. That part of our conscience that craves connections to other souls, relationships, higher pourpose, meaning to it all, spiritual rewards, there lies the origens and conflict of good and evil. The phenominon of being born again is that moment when we realise and believe that we DO have a soul and that that soul will be eternal. An awakening of an old soul or the creation of a new one. We still have this need to discover the misteries of the univers and measure and quantify everything and if we cant discount it as myth legend lies or religios hysteria. We need to first realise that we don't know much at all. There is more that we don't know than we have learned in our entire exsistance 3 times over. We are infants, still learning to walk. Some things are beyond our comprehention others we don't even know we don't know yet. so what audacity does it require to claime "if we can't explaine it it isn't real" Why not call it what it is.; as yet unknown. Does it make you feel better somehow to believe that the millions who believe in the unbelievable are either stupid ,crazy, or simply deluded. Which one of you knows it all. Why would you believe that because an event can be recreated in the lab that that is the only explanation. be open to the human experienc and ideas other than your own. Science itself has developed theories for multidemensional universes, multiverses. alternate demensions ,theory after theory to explain everything. but theory is not proof it is merely another educated guess in a long line of guesses, many not so educated.some of those remaining unchallenged until the discovery of new information. Hell we just descovered faster than light particles that laugh in the face of every genios on the planet who have addaemntly claimed its impossabilaty. Good luck in your journy, I shall continue mine with a joyful heart trying to make this a better world than I found it. Sorry so long. I can't stop myself sometimes.

RamboRimbaud: fear of death can be used as a reason to celebrate life. it all depends on your perception. I dont fear death for myself but i do fear it for my family who have been part of my exsistence since i can remember. I fear that death because it will kill a little bit of myself . while i am still alive to feel its wounds. my own death doesnt troble me just living a stupid forgettablle life because i was afraid that I may die if i risk anything

xapim: what is death? a sleep of good dreams, bad dreams, or a non dreaming sleep. maybe if their was more of a definition of what death is. seems it is something to fear as of a myth of death that is in a black coated hood with a weapon. and also theres the ideas of death is painful and the fear of going through that pain to die. and the wounder of life and feelings afterdeath that seem to be predeath concerns of a disturbance....i think maybe the will to live causes a fear of death ? and also it seems the idea's cause a stir of the realm, and that feeling is associated with fearful feelings.

Lazarus65: Life is much more than you can know. The greatest thing to ever happen to me was my death. Also the most tragic. My life has been more dificult than it could have been simply because of the things I've seen. But I have had a life lived, I have loved much, and I will continue to do so till I fall or rise. God trains me for battles you do not know to fear as yet. When you do then you will remember these words, and if you don't and that day never comes, then I will have been crazy and will have scattered as dust does into the wind. I will see you when I see you. Peace

Irish American Rebel: I dont fear death. Death is just a metomorphasis of life. Its like the catepillar. We are in one form and we die and become another form. Death comes to everything that, God or whoever you believe in, has created. The only thing I do fear is leaving my children behinde. Knowing they will have to live on this Earth without me protecting them. So why fear something that is going to happen reguardless of what we do? Dont fear death. Death is just another part of your existance.

Likeitornot: Well of course Im not afraid of death as much as Im afraid of missing out on life. hehe Im also pretty sure if you die of natural causes like old age, there will come a time when that fear will disappear.

Is there anything beyond death? Who really knows when you have to deal with answers like, “the universe came out of nothing.”

I like what Steve Jobs had to say on the subject when he addressed Stanford university with his speech “ Stay hungry stay foolish”

Enjoy and I hope it inspires you.

I_L0V3_Y0u
I_L0V3_Y0u: he he he, people that fear death are like the toddlers you cannot get to go to sleep, even though it's "obvious" they are sleepy. They scream and cry because they are so afraid of what they will miss out on while they are sleeping. They know the world is still turning while they sleep.....something exciting may happen and they don't want to not experience it, just because they were asleep.

All death is, simply sleeping. That's the end of this life "stage". Everything in the universe has cycles. From egg stage to infant stage to adolescent stage to adult stage to senior stage to death stage.

And if you believe in reincarnation, the beautiful cycle begins all over again in your next life. It's okay to sleep. Death doesn't hurt. When your body breaks down, the nervous system (that allows you to experience pain) breaks down too. So if it, dissolves, and you feel nothing.....why fear ?

That process of dying can be frightening for some. I can understand that more than the fear of death. At least if you suffer just before death, then death offers you relief once it's all over and done with.

CowboysLbug: I would like to share something on the subject of death that I wrote a couple weeks ago, after some deep thought, I was feeling sorry for myself. I have been diabetic since I was 20 (15 years) And just last year I was diagnosed with graves disease, just like when I was diagnosed as a diabetic I have been living in denial not wanting to face but yet knowing that sooner or latter I would have to begin treatment and ultimately under go RAI treatments (radiation to kill my thyroid) You see graves disease is an autoimmune diesase that attacks your thyroid, utimately its your thyroids increase function from being attacked that kills you. There is no treatment for the disease other then to kill your thyroid before it kills you. Thyroids production of hormones affects many parts of your body, eyes to your heart. Not one week after writting this I suffered a thyroid storm. A critical condition that requires immediate medical care. I still don't know if I am ready to face treatment after the complications, I do belive I am ready for death but the only fear I have is what if. What if theres more to my life, dispite being so tired of lifes lessons and wondering what other misery should I face to continue to learn and better my self as a person I know there are still people that need me, my children, they have only begun to learn and grow. AND that I belive is still the only thing I fear is leaving behind loved ones because death is kind.

Below is my thoughts on death, you can find it at my blog or read it here.
http://cowboyslbug.wordpress.com/2012/01/02/is-death-kind/
Is death kind?

When you think about Deaths patience you have to ask, do our own inner fears conceal deaths natural calamity? We all inspire to accept judgement on the day death comes to take us. Yet we never stop and wonder does death truly judge us? Perhaps our fear is what tampers our perception. We can’t see that our own judgment of ourselves is what drives the fear and we forget that Death has not come to take us but rather welcome us for a life well spent.

We disguise death within our fears and misunderstand that it is Death that knows us best of all. We squander our simplicities in all that creates pain, misguided fortunes, wants verses need, and yet Death quietly sits by our side. In basic thought we have conjured a belief that Death is no friend of mine. What friend would allow such misery? But yet deeply we know only a true friend would remain through it all and allow us the grace to learn.

Time has always hovered plaguing uncertainty. Should we, shouldn’t we? Why does it matter, what else is there? Is it easier to imagine that Death crawled from a deep dark ugliness that holds no value? Some questions should never be answered, some questions get in the way of life’s pursuits. Fate has a balance that we often try to foolishly bend to our will. Death forgives us what we mistakenly conjure in place of our greatest desire.

Gone is the gratitude in all that becomes you. A time when belief gave us an excuse to bless even the simplest exchange of energy our body needed to sustain our soul. Our basic understanding of how energy relates to one another, in the beginning was pure of heart and held no ill will of others. Does it matter at all if Death continues to give us one more try? While we wait for our questions to be answered why do we hide beneath our mess and let our chances pass us by?

When disease ravages our body Death does what is best and swiftly embraces those in need. Some may argue the cruelty when Death takes a stand during moments of despair when we pray to wither away. The pain and misery squeezing our soul that tears us empty should not be cheated. Regardless of how absurd it may seem, misery is a gift that transfers into magnificent energy once absorbed. It provides great healing wisdom above all pride. Death walks through life at our side and never fails to act in kindness to do what is right. Death is kind.
