Aura:
I was just wondering how you got to your opinion that you posted. It's kind of hard to comment if I can't follow.
So, if I got this correctly, you are suggesting that people try not to look/talk to strangers in their daily commute because that is political correct?

I think that's not really the case.
I just read an article about a guy who almost got killed because he asked a stranger on the street to stop cat calling his female friend. Violent outbursts like that are not exactly the norm, but they are common enough that I think the ignoring of strangers is more survival tactic.

Think of it this way, if I gave you a bag full of M&Ms and told you 3 of them were poisoned, but the rest are perfectly fine, would you open it and eat a few because probably the ones you put in your mouth are perfectly fine....or would you just ignore the whole bag?

Outbackjack: Aboriginal people in Australia have had their land stolen, their children stolen, referred to as fauna (terra nullus), been raped cheated, discriminated against, persecuted and exterminated on a genocidal scale.

Today the ignorance continues with further discrimination, denial of employment, the sneers, abuse and deaths in police custody.

And you Corvin expect these people to stop being so serious and show a little humour when white people make racist jokes at them?

Trance 2014: Reply to Aura

i am stating if we all ignore people and turn our heads when crime is being committed,,stop watching out for youth, elderly
stop monitoring and caring for our neighbors and friends

we end up relying on the higher power of authorities to have more
control over us,,and thus less freedom than we already have
and creating more distance from others around us

eg: we witness our neighbors being broken into,,but don’t get involved
if we don’t report it we are guilty of the same crime in Canada law
(accessory to the crime) for not reporting a crime

but worse
if we are not getting involved because the criminal may not be the same culture as us,,and concerned we may offend them,,what stops us
from being a victim of being broken into the next day

then we decide to cry,,,ow poor me i am so good i don’t bother or get involved
but i got broken into,, and people blame it on god,,ow god is not loving he allowed the local people to steal from us,,bomb us,shoot us,,etc

if we don’t take responsibility for our own actions and watch for our own community safety,,we give up the right for safety and allow criminals to flourish
we cannot blame anyone but our self

before you reply with an opinion,,please Google some information
statistics the amount and type of crime committed
between large cities and small cities
and see if smaller communities have same crime per person
as do larger cities,,just out of curiosity
and what culture, sex, age, nationality, location has the largest crime rate
you might be amazed to find three zones in the world having the highest rate of violence and crime

but hey if you come to an understanding,,is that politically incorrect to see truth of crime data and fact?

CoIin: Interesting post, Trance

Sometimes there might be some controversy over a claim like : "Jim is a nice guy"

Jim's friends will likely rush to his defence. : "Jim is always very nice to me. Jim is a nice guy."

Obviously this won't do. To infer from "This swan is white" or "100 swans we've examined were all white" to "All swans are white" is to make an invalid inference. We can only KNOW if all swans are white by examining ALL swans.

Similarly when there are questions over Mary's fairness, her friends will doubtless jump in with "Mary is always fair with me." which, of course, is equally useless. We do not ascertain a person's fairness through an examination of her treatment of CERTAIN individuals, least of all her own friends. A person who is just to SOME people is not a person of justice. Selective justice is no justice at all.

A person's niceness or fairness requires an overall examination of how that person treats ALL others, and most of all, those he or she has least reason to be nice or fair to.

No doubt Joseph Stalin could be just and fair and nice too when it suited him.

Getting to the point, I think we have reason to suspect an act of injustice has been carried out right here in Wireclub very recently. And you know exactly what I'm referring to.

Almost everyone turns away. After all, one can get hurt by poking one's nose into what is "none of my business".

I've done what I can to help, but I fear it's not enough. I do this not because the potential victim is a friend of mine -- she's not -- but because I believe it's the right thing to do. I would do it for anyone else too, including the perpetrators of injustice if they one day fell victim themselves.

And I do it out of a vague, but probably unrealistic hope, that if I ran afoul of injustice myself and was unable to defend myself, perhaps one or two courageous individuals would speak up for me.

Demanding justice only when it's a friend who is in trouble doesn't make one a just person. Justice has to be applied indiscriminately.

I always find the silence of others as injustice glares defiantly at them -- challenging them to do something -- quite appalling.

to be a fair (person) does not just apply to our friends only agree
it is a quality applied to all if correct

we must study and make a wise decision,, much like a judge or jury
weights the facts

as equality is not concerned as to sex, age, color, religion, nationality
but honesty of our actions

but at the same time should not also be paralyzed by political correctness
when the facts are there stating who is causing the problems,,whatever the problems may be,,we should not be ignoring it

to see truth is not discrimination to any,,but understanding of recorded information

Corwin: I see... so for you this is all about "white skins" vs. the "non-whites", and all the problems that "those people" cause for humanity... and how political correctness makes it unpopular to address this issue. Oh yes... it's all very clear to me now.

Well... if being against political correctness puts me in the same camp as a White Supremacist like you, then I may have to reconsider my views regarding political correctness... maybe it's not such a bad thing after all.

Aura: I've looked at your crime index and yes, I do see something these places have in common. There is a huge gap in income in all of those places. The rich are very rich, the poor are very poor. And I do mean VERY poor. Caracas is almost half slumps. Desperation seems to be the one thing they all have. Even in your own example, you admit the problems is in the low income housing locations.
I've seen poor white people commit crimes like breaking and entering or mugging. I have not seen rich coloured people do the same.
Which tells me the problem is not being of a certain race. It's being poor.

Aura: You don't have all that much idea how poverty works?

See, if someone is poor, and you give him a bag of bread, you will have a poor person with a bag of bread. This poor person won't starve and that's...something I guess. But it will not solve any problem.
But a space program, that's not just giving someone a bag of bread, that's giving someone a job. A honest to goodness job. They put in hours in, they get paid, they get paid, they take this money and use it to pay other people for food and services they want and need and so on, that's how an economy works. That's why politicians keep going on about job creation. Because getting people to earn money is the only way to get out of poverty.
That space program probably did a lot more good than a decade of handing out free food.

As for the land being rich in south America, well yes. And Venezuela has oil on top of that. And they have a few, very rich people who live in huge mansions with private armed security all around it, and on the other side of town there's a family living in cardboard boxes. That's part of the problem, too many people, too little jobs and yes crime will rise in such occasions.

Good on you for not stealing or mugging when times were hard. Now did you have to go home to face your hungry family and say there was nothing to eat, or was it just you? I'm not trying to excuse criminals, but the realities are a lot more complex than just a matter of 'coloured people are criminals and should be locked up'

anym: Coming late to this thread: My biggest problem with Political Correctness is not that it exists or is encouraged, but that really stupid people often imply that if a statement is PC there must be something wrong with it. In argument they use the term PC in a derogatory way; as an insult and some kind of indication that a position must be invalid or hypocritical.

Goes with labelling & packaged thinking instead of using one's reasoning faculties.
