zeffur: "AchillesSinatra: So...Some people seem to go through life doing nice things. Take the Dalai Lama. Other people go through life doing horrible things. Both do these things freely (according to the religious nuts). Why didn't a benevolent God create more people like the Dalai Lama?"

I'll go even one better than that. If God is perfect, then why would God not create more perfect beings rather than create humans who are imperfect, but, free to do as they wish even knowing the consequences if they reject God & His ways?

I would posit that God wanted mortal beings with the capacity to reason & choose what they wanted as they became aware of all of the possibilities that are available to them. Those who were wise enough to choose what is right/true/good/eternal would be saved & given the gift of eternal life & those that were perpetually obstinate would be eliminated--a bit like making many good paintings & then burning the ones that weren't good enough to keep.

zeffur: Probably because it isn't a significant factor for the average person when it comes to your freewill decisions.

zeffur: Imposed? No..offered as a possibily option, sure. People consider information from many sources before making their own freewill decisions.

zeffur: re: "Enkidu2017: what about gut instincts?"

What about it? No one forces you go with your gut instinct--you have the power to ignore it & make a reasoned decision--which is evidence of your freewill capability.

You certainly have the freewill to flip a coin or ignore making a decision--both are done of your own volition, obviously.

zeffur: Thanks for the link, Enkidu2017. I was completely unaware of that band until now. One of the vocalists has a voice like one of the vocalists in Rush, imo.
