Through eyes that solemnly stare
In cool morning's air
And throughout the nights and days
Silence prevails, he cannot tell
There is no one to care
.
Patiently he still sits and waits
For his masters footsteps at the gate
And yet awake into the night
Loneliness is his only companion
Depression now is his sad fate
.
Never does he run or play
Defeated, all he can do is lay
Gone is the hope for happiness
The entitlement due him
His master here no longer stays
.
Yet faithful devoted he remains
In spite of grief, emotional pain
Diligently protecting hearth and home
Patiently awaiting for his master to show
While quietly only lonely knows
.
