The Fear Within

The storm did not come quietly
But gave its warning long before
With blazing swiftness it appeared
And knocked on every door
.
Some knew but did not answer
No mercy spared to those who did
Who sheltered briefly in a moment
That turned to anguish as they hid
.
It picked and chose all of those
Weak and strong, young and old
Mercilessly extending tentacles
With all the fury to unfold
.
The storm did not herald just pain
But with darkness and despair
With roaring threats of alienation
No relief shown anywhere
.
In a blinding flash the world rocked
Then fell stunned, and afraid
No where to turn the fury burned
Taunting mankind in a bold promenade
.
The unbelievers fell to their knees
For surely the end had begun
And while the scientists of the world
Worked relentlessly to have it done
.
There remained those amongst us
This curse that claimed so many lives
To be a hoax, a cruel joke
A political endeavor spewing lies
.
But count the dead, let's hear it said
This tragic blow came unforeseen
In God we trust, overcome we must
A worldwide killing machine
