Waiting

Rick Prime
Rick Prime:
You should have come home last night.
Midnight - wheels turned over tarmac.
You should have been on that flight,
And I was waiting!

Woke up this morning and I smiled,
She's home!
The sheets were drawn,
Mattress hollowed by your sleeping form,
Still warm from your body.

You should have been in my bed last night,
Sleeping. You could feel my heartbeat.
When I cradled your head,
But, instead, I was waiting!

Woke up this morning and I smiled,
She's home!
The kettle was hot,
Your lipstick stained the cup,
Your coffee so sweet,
So I drank it up.
The seat still warm from your body.

You should have been in my arms last night.
My mouth pressed to yours would taste you.
I could have said, Been so long...
Yet, here I am, waiting.
