FogofWar: We take for granted how lucky we are here, so far from those ugly regions of the world.

When we teach our children not to take candy from a stranger, it's because we are uncertain of whether that candy is healthy for them; not because we are uncertain if that candy will blow up our entire house.

When we tell our children to look both ways before crossing the street, it is so that they do not get hit by a car; not so that they do not get shot by an AK47.

When we see a car slowly pass our neighbourhood, we think, "is this person lost?" not "Is that car a bomb?"

While we worry about what we are going to make for supper, they worry about if they will have food for supper.

While we worry about booking time for a haircut, they worry about getting shot for having theirs too short.

While we worry about the sun killing our crops, they worry about getting killed for not giving up theirs.

While we complain about the line to Tim Horton's, they beg to get through the line at the evac gate to get out of a firefight.

While we complain about potholes in our road; they deal with IED holes in theres.

While we whine that the police are limiting our freedom, they are begging to have freedom.

We complain when our air conditioning breaks and it's 30 degrees, they smile because it is only 30 degrees.

While we complain that the government is stealing our money, theirs is being stripped from their hands to pay for weapons used against them.

While we worry about getting a ticket for crossing the street; they worry about being shot for crossing theirs.

While we look over our shoulder to see if anyone is peaking when we vote; they are looking over their shoulder to see if someone is going to kill them for voting!

Sometimes I have to bite my tongue when I hear people complain about how corrupt our government is, or how "limited" our freedom is....I have far less freedom than any of you, yet every morning when I wake up, I smile knowing that I am not nearly as limited as so many others.
