the real slim DEEPy
the real slim DEEPy: higher educaion is so expensive because we have made student loans too easy to get. its called supply-and-demand. its what happens when the govenment gets involved with the free market, according to the austrian school of economics.

Outbackjack: The so called free for all market and education do not mix.

It is shocking how much it costs to get an education in the U.S and here in Australia we are slowly going the same way. Then what happens?

Our best and brightest dont become Scientists or professors anymore. They become stockbrokers or corporate parasites. What a waste!

OCD_OCD: Universities need to be brought back to reality. Their cost per hour is outrageous and you are required to buy obscenely overpriced books written by their professors. They now have ridiculous degrees that are pointless and useless in the real world.

vivv_00: Federal Income Tax, State Tax, Medicare, Medical, CA SDI, Social Security $$$$$$, the government takes all this, seems alot like our capitalism feeds our socialism, which might work well if the ppl in power (from city level on up) weren`t grifters.

the real slim DEEPy
the real slim DEEPy: generous hand-outs, union-negotiated wages and federal fiscal policy dont just "cure" poverty, they all CAUSE INFLATION, which is the hidden tax on the poor.

in union states, the union wages are increased by 17%, which sounds good, but the const of living is 12% higher, on average: meaning that union employees get 5% ahead of the game, while non-union citizens of such states have a 12% LOWER standard of living- especially those on fixed incomes such as social security and/or welfare.

its hard to value money if you are not working for it. receiving public assistance and higher-than-market-value union-negotiated raises leads to splurging, which causes inflation in market sectors to which everyone needs access, such as food, housing and transportation.

im not saying that we should stop helping people, but we shouldnt be as generous- give less per person to help more... $400 a month in food stamps for 1 individual is too much and leads not only to foodstuff inflation, but also leads to an obesity epidemic among food stamp recipients. the issuing of food stamps monthly also leads to splurging at the beginning of the month, and near-starvation near the end, which wreaks havoc on the metabolism. issue less food stamps per-person, and issue them bi-monthly.

Kaiya_
Kaiya_: The thing with socialism to remember is that when you donate your money it's called a donation, when someone else donates your money its called stealing.

Never share crusts with anyone who believe they are entitled to what you have based on need or any other reason yet did nothing to deserve it.

Metaverseguy: I think when people think of handouts they are thinking of lazy people who don't want to work. There are generally some people who actually need the money such as disabled people. I think it's nice to have financial aid and unemployment after being let off, all things paid for by taxes.
