monco: Undeniably true the election was stolen. And I would very much prefer for there to be a huge reform in the electoral system here in the states, but it doesn't work like you say it does in Australia. Nader knew he wasn't going to win. Third party candidates don't vie for major office here. If you're not from one of the "two parties" you automatically lose. You'd have to be a pretty naive American to seriously hope that Nader would even come close.

I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries, but I knew for certain that he wouldn't stand a chance of winning anything. Now, Paul's not running as a Libertarian, as most people thought he would, because he's not a fool and knows all he would be doing would be sabotaging one (or maybe both) candidates.

Also, Nader wasn't starting. He's been around for hundreds, nay, thousands of years.

Look, despite of what they preach, republicans are the greatest spenders of government money. Ronald Regan and now Bush have turned that into a stereotype. They love to spend, war, and cut taxes for the richest causing dizzying deficits. Will Obama be able to implement his/Hillary's health care plan given economic disaster he'll be dealing with probably his entire first term remains to be seen. It will depend on the economy. But you can count on letting Bush's tax cuts expire and likely raising taxes for top earners further. Of all OECD nations US has the greatest gap between rich and poor. Wall Street banks plan on paying out fat bonuses even as they are still in business thanks to taxpayer money. Warren Buffet characterized Bush's tax cats as benefiting him much more than his secretary. If we're lucky, WB will be part of Obama's economic team.

Goran: Nader didn't run to sabotage Gore's bid. He was right to run and bring to forefront what he thought was important. In retrospect he too probably wishes he didn't but that's the power of hindsight.

monco: The outcome of his run is obvious. He stole votes from the Democratic base, and cost Gore votes, and subsequently the election. Given the fact that you have to be an idiot to expect a third party candidate from the "Green Party" would stand a chance of winning in the USA, that's the only motive I can imagine him having: to sabotage Gore's bid for the presidency. Not to help GW, either. That's why I called it a passive aggressive hissy fit.

I can't understand how he wouldn't have seen it coming...I'm 22 and I already know that t.p. candidates damage the chances of the candidate closest to them on the political spectrum. He couldn't have possibly understood just how bad for the country GW was going to be, but still, he had to have known he was improving his chances of winning.
