The history of slavery (Page 12)
Barbara the Jew: Come on Lipton examine the situation properly and you can come to the same conclusion. Specialy if you are a middle class american
LiptonCambell: Nonsense. Middle Class Americans, while their situation is unpleasant, is not the same as not having any rights.
There are people who are being raped daily, and not having any choice in the matter, because they are considered property. Compared to middle class American, its ridiculous...
originality: to make that comparison so lightly suggests you don't have much experience with the former
LiptonCambell: >>> Physical rape vs financial rape
I suggest you then find a sex slave and tell them that you share in their pain, because your boss won't pay you more than what your work is worth to them.
Seriously, people like you need to knocked the fuck out. It is utterly disgusting to make any such comparison.
Barbara the Jew: Hold on! When and Where did I make such a comparison. Learn how to read! As for the F bomb I suggest you take it elsewhere it is not welcome in my forum. You either have an intellectual conversation or don't post at all.
LiptonCambell: Where didn't you make that comparison? You literally said "Financial Slavery Vs Sexual Slavery"- you clearly compared your situation to that of a slaves.
As for you asking me to leave? Get real. You don't "own" this thread anymore than I do- if you feel my comments were outrageous, then report them. But you cannot determine who may and may not enter your threads. If you want that kind of control, then having private conversations. This is public.
And frankly, I think your vulgar comments earned vulgarity in return.
the real slim DEEPy: the earliest books of the bible, dating back to ancient egypt, told of slavery. slavery is horrid, but it, at the very least, has good job security. in this economy, it seems like it could have its perks
i feel that if slaves had more human rights, slavery would not be such a blemish on our past.however, slavery is a blemish on the history of virtually every culture. it was the subjugation of an entire people group that was wrong, the beatings, the rape, the "one drop rule" that made the slave/master rape babies "black" and, thus slaves. the generational slavery was unacceptable. the original africian slaves saw better living conditions in colonial america than they did as afrcian war prisoners/slaves, and were purchased legally due to a lack of kidnapping deterrents in africia at the time.
the children of the original slaves should have been born free, and that they were not- that is the true travesty.
LiptonCambell: Huh? So it's wrong to be born into slavery, but to be kidnapped and forced into it- that's okay?
the real slim DEEPy: i donnt say it wasnt wrong, i just said that wasnt the worst part of it, and that it was legal at the time. most every cultre throughout story has kept slaves, they just tended to treat them better in some cultures than others, and we didnt treat ours right, so that made it so much worse.
Barbara the Jew: Versus and Equal have two different meanings If you doubt that please consult a dictionary. As far as being vulgar there has been no name calling and/or obscene words on my behalf. Lipton I am asking you to behave or I will report you.
LiptonCambell: I don't doubt that they have different meanings. I'm not complaining about you saying they are equal- i'm complaining that you're making the comparison to begin with....
Barbara the Jew: Slavery is Slavery some more vicious and nasty but at the end is slavery. Human trafficking is another time of modern slavery. Children and man are also being traffic. What is more scary is that there are places like Saudi Arabia where female trafficking is not ilegal
LiptonCambell: >>> Slavery is Slavery
But there is no such thing as "Financial Slavery"- comparing your situation to sex slaves is utter bullshit.
I took your suggestion to check the definition of slave;
a person who is the property of and wholly subject to another; a bond servant.
Having a shitty paying job doesn't match that definition.
Barbara the Jew:
"But there is no such thing as "Financial Slavery"- comparing your situation to sex slaves is utter bullshit."
Again when did I say that?
As for having a bad job and being in bondage to debt, and taxes is a form of owner ship. Perhaps you should interview the people who are living in "tent" cities in Ask them how they got there.
