Combative Obama warns Supreme Court on health law (Page 2)

OCD_OCD: In a way, yes it was, Lavendar. That's why there are State's Rights under the Constitution. Anything not specifically set forth as a power of the federal government is a right of each individual state. It was legal as a state law for that reason and illegal as a federal law.

OCD_OCD: Exactly, Lavendar. If States wanted it, they would do it themselves. They don't want it (other than Massachusetts), therefore the Federal Government cannot force it on them.

OCD_OCD: That's why we should take the time to try and explain the difference between how things work here and why it causes problems. People in other countries are used to the government providing all of their medical care, so they don't necessarily understand what it is like here and why we balk.

lavendar_star: That's true and reasonable of you OCD OCD, even though I think free healthcare only applies to rich Western countries and we have to pay for dental care in the UK unless your on benefits.

I think from a outside perspective its hard to distinguish why people hate the bill and is it because of Obama himself (people dont like him for whatever reason and so dislike anything he introduce as seen with that lost in space guy) or is it the health bill itsself.

OCD_OCD: It's the health bill itself PLUS the fact that he used what we call the "nuclear" choice to get it passed without the votes any other piece of legislation would have needed in order to get passed. It was the fact that no one knew what was in the Bill before they voted for it. They made so many changes and then threw a boatload of paper out there and demanded that it be voted on.

Now it's becoming clear (as Nancy Pelosi said, "You'll have to pass the bill to find out what's in it) what is actually included in the Bill, what the future costs will be and what the burden to the taxpayers will be. Free medical care sounds good, but somebody is going to have to pay for it.

I do believe there are other ways to make health care more affordable. The Federal Government has made it to where insurance companies cannot sell the same insurance policy across state lines and there are few choices of insurance providers. This means that the people buying the policies are stuck paying whatever prices those insurance companies demand, because we can't get insurance anywhere else. This has happened through what they call the "interstate commerce clause" which says that the Federal Government can regulate commerce between the states.

That is not commerce between the states. It is individual commerce and limiting our rights to purchase from any insurance company available. If there is competition, then those insurance companies must compete with other insurance companies for business. When we are limited in each state, they have us in a stranglehold and can charge whatever in the hell they want to and we have a choice: either pay it or do without.

The reason we have this nonsense? Lobbyists. Insurance companies have HUGE lobbyists in Washington and they coerce, pay off, buy, cajole and do whatever else they need to in order to get politicians to make political policies that benefit them.

franklin1950: to say that go by what the constitution says is correct in the broadest description of their function .
they interpet the constitution as applied to the cased before them .
seldom is there a 9 to 0 decision.
obviosly president obama would prefer more like minded judges on the bench and may get his wish with 4 more years in office .
just as there are philisophical differences in the parties of the congress and in the choices of president so there is amonst the judges of the judicial system.
in theory the checks and balances of the 3 branches of government is a good thing . in practice there is the posibility of abuse if the courts are pacted with .........

franklin1950: the supreme court begins hearing the arizona case on border protection and iding illegal alians.
a high ranking democrate said this week that if the rulling does not go their way action will be taken to remedy the courts desision.
his statetment could also be taken as a not so vieled threat to the court that their desision will not be tolerated if it does not agree with the administrations position.

what retrobution can be expected if the democrares and obama do not fair so well in the upcoming november ellections.

southern77: odd that when we look back only a few months ago when two of the "factions" were in masses...

the tea party rallies... nice and neat and orderly

the OWS "sit ins" for lack of a better discription.... rampid drug use, rapes, trash and the list goes on

now out of those two groups who would be most likely to RIOT in the streets....

gotta love obama when he said this one...

it seems everything is related to politics and the 5th estate are merely extensions of political philosophies and agendas .
" the end justifies the means "
tea party rally partisipents are represented by majority media as evil racist manipulating mob.
occupy wall street and americal spring partisipants were and will be reported as patriots expressing their 1st amendment rights in a righteous cause.

OCD_OCD: The media is the key to stopping a lot of the hate and violence. News should be reporting of the news, not a platform for any political agenda. That's what editorial talking head shows are for.

We've been shown how the media affects the masses time after time, and not in a good way. The Treyvon Martin case is simply the latest call to arms rather a call for reason.
