Indeed, the only thing we do know is that we don't know very much about what really happened, which is why Zimmerman was properly acquitted. And I say properly acquitted because the case was not proved beyond a reasonable doubt under Florida law, which allows great latitude for a person to defend him or herself. All we really know is that Zimmerman reported seeing someone he thought was suspicious. The local cops told him to back off, but he pursed Martin. Some kind of fight occurred. We, here, have NO idea who really started it or what really happened because it was at night and there were no consistent witnesses to the event. We don't know if Zimmerman was the aggressor. We don't know if Martin was. We can make suppositions, but we don't know. All we know is that a nasty fight occurred, Zimmerman sustained some injuries and he killed Martin, and claimed self-defense under Florida. The lack of evidence led to an acquittal - under Florida law, which gives great leeway to someone claiming to feel his or her life is in danger. But none of us here really knows what happened. And we never will. All this other shit about whether blacks are more violent than whites is irrelevant to the case, although I do see and read a lot of preposterous demagoguery that appears to reflect some rather nasty attitudes about race. There are lots of reasons why blacks commit more violent crimes than others, but the likely causes include economics, centuries of family destruction and ongoing societal bias. Dubious studies about testosterone and low IQ are red herrings. Of course, this has nothing to do with the Martin incident, but may speak to Mr. Zimmerman's state of mind in general. Zimmerman might be a serial killer, he might be an actual do-gooder, neighborhood watchman. Nobody knows anything from reading news stories. It was already known his wife wanted a divorce before this happened. She might have just made some crap up to try and get money or some kind of no fault divorce. It says she calls the cops and claims he has a gun. The police question her and then she says she never saw a gun and he was just holding his hip or something. The whole thing is stupid. If the woman wants a divorce and has her father over and starts yelling and screaming and the father gets involved, it's not hard to imagine them getting into a fight.
