bright_light101: I didn't see this forum until now, and i've read that some people assume that because Saudi Arabia and Iran (the only 2 countries that enforce the wearing of the hijab) enforce religious laws onto the populace, britain has the right to do so too. Ermm wrong. Those countries don't thrive on religious freedom, why? Because they're governed by sharia law- religion is an important concept that constitutes their identity, and it's important that you respect that. However, Britain's institutions are not religiously based.

Furthermore, the UK is known for endorsing freedom of religion, freedom of speach...how contradictory would it be for a secular nation to impose these vile laws that go against the very ideology they are known for. The US aswell. This forum is pure hate, and vengence. Clear your minds. Think a little. Reason a lot. Be happy

Barbara the Jew: Bright I think that as long as it is a women choice she should wear what ever she chooces. With the exception of the abaya and the burka they seem medival and degrating. I was born and raised in the caribean and slave women and women that did domesticated services use something similar to the jihab. So naturaly it seem to me. I have come to the understanding that some women like to wear the jihab. As long as it is her choice I have no problems with it. I also dont have a problem if people ran around naked :shrugs:

bright_light101: Well, its great that you endorse those ideals barbara; however, what i dont agree with is forcing women to wear the burqa and hijab, it should be their choice. I also don't agree with people who force women not to wear the hijab or niqab, this is also their choice. It may seem midevil to some people, but its not to them. So long as they choose, that's all that matters (:

David responds:

You contradict yourself with your statements.

bright_light101: LOL. Thanks for pointing that out. I don't agree with enforcing sharia law in any institutes; however, its important to them, so respect it. They're not countries i ideally look up to. However, what would be contradicting is to have a nation that endorses freedom of religion ban the wearing of the hijab

Bright,

I agree to a point....I think....I just tried to write in support of a government banning the hijab during security related issues, but I got caught up with questions which stepped on personal liberty....and they were not related to religious cloths or actions. Can the government tell you what to wear which contradicts your personal liberties? I guess it depends on the guy with the gun over there watching you behind a bullet proof window.

bright_light101: My point is this: The government shouldn't tell you what to practice, or what to wear. If you choose to wear the nikab, so be it. If you choose to be a stripper, right on! It doesn't matter. Any government that bans the wearing of any form of clothing (Especially religious) is not egalitarian and is injust.

Yeah I understand your point. But I am not 100% with the idea. When checking in for a flight, can the airline ask for the woman to show her face to verify her identity? How about to get a drivers licence, or any other situation where verification of who you are is absolute? (I do have an answer to the question)

bright_light101: ahh with so many muslims in our day and age david, dont you think that problem has been resolved. Women are accomodated for at places like that so that they may take off their viel, their hijab and whatever else is required. This is the beauty of the West

bright_light101: ahh why should drivers license be important? You can totally take off your viel for matters like that...these women should also be willing to accomodate security. completely agree...so long as they do so, i see no reason for the ban

bright_light101: P.s: The niqab is an option in islam. Not a requirement, so they dont have excuses. they should accomodate security at all times for those matters. Nonetheless, the ban is vile and inhumane.

bright_light101: Well yea, if they abide by those security purposes then all should be fine. Men?? They don't cover their faces lol. Issues like this are not issues lol. Simply put, a country that endorses freedom of religion should accomodate these women by having security who also happen to be female to do the checks. A drivers liscense should be fine to wear just the hijab. Banning is a pure form of prejudice. Simply put.
