nellie77: Hmm yes i noticed that too... I found this quote on the New York Times and wanted to share "Seek the truth as best you can, determine it, go about it with candor and compassion and do so without fear or favor"

I would hope more Syrians would speak out about what they have experienced the past 7 months in this country, i find peoples experiences are by and far the closest to the truth you can get.

And being a "Cynic" i always anticipate that what i see and hear can be TOTALLY different to what i see..

the situation in Homs ( a city in the middle of syria where I live ) is more bloody than u can imagine syrian tanks r bombing us coz we make large demonstartions against the criminal regime.
i think u live in damascus or aleppo .these cities are much safer than the rest of syria.
what is being told on sana is untrue while the other international medias are true.
i just told u what i see.

nellie77: Emadmass all my family live in Banias and i work in Lattakia...
I'm sorry to hear whats happening in Homs, and it dosn't surprise me what you say....

But i have one question for you, i have been part of the peaceful demonstrations, (this was back in June this year) there was no problems and i have photoes and video footage...
What i don't understand is why are they telling us NOT to demonstrate anymore? i am under the assumption its because of the "Terrorist groups" and that its no longer safe..

Please explain...

emadmass: they don't want us to demonstarte coz they don't wan't the regime to be finished .but theycan't say that in frank so they need an execuse to tell us that .so they are using the execuse of the terrorist groups .
for me i haven't seen any terrorists. all protesting here is peaseful .
and the only one who kills the syrians citizens is the goverment it self .
in Homs daily the kill several pp to end the demonstartions .and arrest tens of ppl every day .
some of arrested ppl r being tortured till death.and others are being forced to admit things that they didn't do .
i need to tell something :
some times they keep the demonstration running when it's not that large and maybe this what happend to the demonstrations that u were a part of it and finished peacfully as u told me .
but they use extreme force against large ones like what happened in hama and still happening in Homs.
since u currently live in lattakia u can go to some areas which had demonstrations before and u can see result of security forces there .
i hope that i told u what u wanted to know .
notice : what is being told on sana about terrorist groups in Homs is completely untrue.
but there's some honest members of the army trying to protect the peacful demonstartion and they fight with the criminal security forces and this leads to victims from the two sides.
happy to meet u.

David responds:

Who are these so called “terrorists”? The Syrian government has labeled any Syrians who want change this word. Many would label them ‘patriots’. The Assad’s have been in control for over 40 years and are refusing to give up the power and will use the military to achieve their goals. Many of the troops have been ordered to shoot the ‘terrorists’ but have refused to fire on unarmed men, women and children. They too are now called terrorists.

I was just about to respond to 1776 but after I read his denial and of emad, perhaps the word idiot would allow them an excuse or 'pass'.

Idiot – According to Encarta Dictionary, idiot is now a disused classification system for someone with an IQ of about 25 or under and a mental age of less than a three year old.

Perhaps the word stupid would work – According to Encarta Dictionary, being stupid is regarded as unintelligent or showing a lack of intelligence, perception or common sense."

emad,

I only know from surfing numerous articles from numerous web-sites. I don't watch or own a TV for a number of reasons for many years now. I read a lot and yes sometimes I might miss-interpret information however, I am rarely challenged and if I'm proved wrong in my conclusion, I have no problem in admitting it. Also, some of my conclusions are based on common sense. I'm not saying I know everything yet I am also not saying I don;t know anything. When you allow yourself to limit yourself to just a few sources of information, you are making conclusions on limited information. If you want to ask me specific questions about specific countries, I would be happy to comment. Asking about the what's going on in Arab countries in general is to broad a question.

And....you said in the previous posts that I insulted you and I asked for the thread. You did not provide. If I was wrong, let me correct my mistake.

emadmass: ok i'll tell u the thread :
u asked me that time some questions about islamic sharia and muslims brotherhood.
i answered u and i'm sure that my answers were completely correct(coz it's my religion and my culture) but u didn't like my answers so u insulted me when u called me a stupid.
anyway it's ok forget it.
i just wanted to know if your major related to politics ?
and what about ppl there in your country ? do they care about the masscares happening in syria daily?
i know it's personal questions so it's up to u to answer or not.
i'll be grateful if u answer these two questions.
best wishes for u.

davidk14: emad said: ...do they care about the masscares happening in syria daily?

David responds:

It's a bag of mixed messages here in the US. There are those that believe we should have supported the 'people' of Syria, not only with words, but with a military response for those who are voicing their opinions and even more, for those that are actively defending themselves against the tyranny of the Syrian government.

There are those in the US that believe we should not... that it is none of our business not only in Syria, but in any country.

I am one that believed that we should have done much more than we did. Unfortunately, the current American administration is weak on foreign policy, actually extremely weak.

nellie77: I think one of these days i may take a taxi down to Homs and visit my aunties, i might get a clearer understanding about whats going on here...

The media in the west have portrayed this counrty in the worst light, here in Syria the media is saying that Armed groups are behind it all and there is foreign conspiracy....

Why would the syrian army Kill innocent people? If Syria don't believe in people protesting and voicing their opinions, how come we still have access to the internet and belong to Groups such as "whats really hppening in Syria" on facebook and so on ........

Malobear
Malobear: I have refrained really writing anything, preferring to reading what others had to write about this matter. But I feel there is a couple of things that need to be considered here.
Syria has always been connected to Russia. Syria/Russia relationship has been such that Syria is one of those "hands off" countries as far as western concerns are. It was that way when I first watching politics in the LBJ/Nixon days and I suspect the same holds true today and is why NATO or any Western countries cannot get involved.
Another thing is Iran's connection with Syria. Iran has used its connection and friendship with Syria to ship certain "things" to Iran's proxies in Lebanon and the West Bank. This has made the leadership of Syria a untold amount of wealth. The Syrian leadership and Iranian leadership have a problem now. As Sammy put it,the people that want justice, freedom, good standard living. If Assad government was to crumble,so would Iran's trade route to their proxies. Iran is NOT going to watch this happen. This is why Iran is sending people from Iran to help Assad. I see very bad days coming ahead for those wanting change in Syria. Because the same tactics used during the Iranian presidential election are going to be used in Syria.
emadmass bought up another reason in another thread and it had to do with sec differences and very well could be another reason.
But at this time I believe this has more to do with power and money and Iran's leaderships believe that its their religious calling to destroy Israel and Syria is a means to that end,at any cost.

Lora123
Lora123: As soon as Iran saw the regimes fall in Tunisia and Egypt, they knew that the same thing would start in Syria. So, for the first time ever, they sent two warships through the Suez canal into the Mediterranean Sea. These warships are presently sitting off of the coast of Syria, prepared to help Assad if it appears that he is losing control of the country. It has been reported that they fired into the city of Lattakia, but I have no proof of that.

Syrians do not have unrestricted access to the internet. Youtube is rarely available there, because any quick search of that website shows dozens of videos of Syrians soldiers and secret police firing on and killing peaceful protesters.
