UN report: Somalia terrorist haven
November 06, 2003

A new U.N. report identifies Somalia as a terrorist haven that served as a base for the perpetrators of the al Qaeda-linked Mombasa Paradise hotel bombing last year.
It says Somalia has become a key arms smuggling country for terrorists.
"Weapons shipments destined for Somalia tend to originate in or are routed through Eritrea, Ethiopia, Yemen and the UAE. From these countries, transporting arms to Somalia is straightforward," the report says.

U.S. Weapons Now in Somali Terrorists’ Hands..
Published On 02 Aug 2011 By admin. Under: English News..

Bad news in the five-year-old U.S. proxy war against al-Qaida–allied Somali insurgents. Half of the U.S.-supplied weaponry that enables cash-strapped Ugandan and Burundian troops to fight Somalia’s al-Shabab terror group is winding up in al-Shabab’s hands.

The kicker: It’s the cash-strapped Ugandans who are selling the weapons to the insurgents.
This revelation, buried in U.N. reports and highlighted by controversial war correspondent Robert Young Pelton at his new Somalia Report website.

Shabab is back in the headlines, for some downright evil actions during Somalia’s growing humanitarian crisis. The terror group is “blocking starving people from fleeing the country and setting up a cantonment camp where it is imprisoning displaced people who were trying to escape Shabab territory,” the New York Times reports.

The Pentagon has been striking at al-Shabab since at least early 2007, with special forces, armed drones and Tomahawk cruise missiles fired by Navy ships. But most of the fighting against the Islamic terror group, which has lured as many as 50 Somali-American kids to Mogadishu and even sent one on a suicide mission, is done by the roughly 9,000 Ugandan and Burundian soldiers belonging to the African Union’s peacekeeping force in Mogadishu, codenamed “AMISOM.”

The problem is, the Ugandan army withholds most of the peacekeepers’ $550 monthly paychecks, keeping the money in bank accounts in Uganda accessible only by the troops’ families. Considering “limited shopping opportunities for embattled AMISOM troops, you would think that makes sense to keep their money at home,” Pelton wrote. “Except that the AMISOM payment debacle leaves thousands of troops surrounded by tons of weapons with no way to buy even ’small small’ things like personal items, sweets or mobile phone recharges to call home.”

So the Ugandans sell their excess weaponry to intermediaries who then sell it on to al-Shabab. And to keep up their racket, the peacekeepers make sure to shoot at every opportunity, burning through “an extraordinary amount of ordnance” to justify continued arms shipments from Washington.

davidk14: MemberX,

With all due respect, are you and idiot or just in denial?

The first article is a recreation from a UN report. The second article is from English News, both 'credible' organizations.

Maybe you get your information from a weegee board or perhaps a spirit that visits you in the middle of the night.

Many might consider that you really need to get your life together. What credibility you may have or have had, is just continuing to just dwindel away and soon, anything you might say may be considered inaccurate and not taken serious....at best. Seriously, just a friendly bit of advise, make sure you have 'reasonable' reference and resource materials to fall back on. Weegee boards just aint gonna do it anymore. And please, personal insults also do not help your credibility either.

Good luck!

How can one prove that the world is round?

Answered by: Paul Walorski, B.A., Part-time Physics/Astronomy Instructor

This is a question that has been asked for many years, and there are some very intuitive, and some not-so-intuitive answers.

To start with... there's a horizon, meaning that the surface that one is observing from is not an infinite plane. On the clearest of days, the only restriction to one's range of sight is the horizon. There can be two explanations for this - one, that the Earth at some point just stops, as if you were looking off the edge of a table. The other is that the Earth is round. Hundreds of years ago, before the invention of the compass or sextant, precise navigation for ships was difficult, even with the stars. Ships that ventured past sight of land were often lost, and thus it was generally believed that the world simply *stopped* at the end of the horizon. With the invention of the compass, and improved map-making, people began to dare more, and with the return of Columbus from his trans-Atlantic voyage, the concept of the Earth as flat was shattered.

Further proof of the Earth being round came after the voyage of Columbus. When Newton discovered and measured the force of gravity, that number could then be tested anywhere the theory was known. Since the force of gravity is roughly the same everywhere on the globe, it could be surmised that the Earth must be spherical. If the Earth were not round, whole hemispheres would have different atmospheric pressure and significantly different sea levels. Also, pictures taken of the Earth in the last 50 years have proved absolutely conclusively that the Earth is round. These are just the arguments that don't require much physics knowledge to explain, there are others that are more technical, but I think that the simplest arguments are the best.

Answered by: Frank DiBonaventuro, B.S., Physics grad, The Citadel, Air Force officer

There are a multitude of methods in which any one can prove that the earth is a sphere. These are the most common.

You can launch a rocket to a high altitude and take pictures of the earth (which various government agencies and private groups have already done thousands of times in the past), but that isn't the most practical way. Pictures and videos taken by orbiting satellites and space stations are certainly the most definitive proof that the earth is a sphere.

But if you're not convinced, read on...

You can also observe, with binoculars, ships slowly 'sinking' below the horizon as it sails farther and farther out to the ocean, then watch them come back. They certainly didn't fall off the edge of the earth! You can also sail or fly around the world.

The Greeks discovered that the earth is round by observing lunar eclipses (i.e. when the earth blocks the sun from the moon, casting its round shadow on the moon's surface).

Another method is simultaneously measuring the length of the shadows cast by identical poles perpendicular to a flat surface that is tangential to the earth's radius at various, distant locations. If indeed the earth is round, then the shadows should all vary in length from one distant location to another, which means that the angle at which the parallel rays of sunlight struck each pole varied from one location to another. (recall the alternate-angles theorem from Geometry class) If the earth is flat, then the lengths of all the shadows should be identical when measured simultaneously, since all rays of sunlight that strike the earth are parallel. However, they are not identical, but in fact, varies in such a way that the angles indicate a spherical surface. (This was one of the earliest methods to determine the radius of the earth)

Also, keep in mind the 24 hour time zones. When it is noon in Hawaii, it is approximately midnight in the Middle East and vice versa. How can it be noon and midnight simultaneously? It is certainly impossible with a flat earth and a sun millions of times more massive.

If I were a billionaire and physically fit, then proving to you the earth is round would be no problem. I can just take you with me on the space shuttle and we'll watch with our own eyes the earth from the orbiting International Space Station.

I have heard from astronauts that there is no experience comparable as watching the earth from above.

I suppose since you believe that its all served on a plate, that the earth being round is also propaganda as well.

You are loosing your position.

About the fact that too many people are starving not only in Somalia, you are right...

...that's why I would place you as a secretary general of the treasure founds of the organization named "UN- 1$"
193 Countries members, will have to tax each worker with in their premisses with a monthly tax of 1$ for development aid for "hungry nations"...and that is a lot of money(no need for army costs)

We can take away... just a tiny amount of the money for Sits, as a gift (a electric razor) so he can shave his beard, cause he will be placed as a "monitor- independus " for a fair investment of the founds...and we don't want him to scare them to death...with his authoritative appearance...

And yes, you can kill someone, if he tries to steal or manipulate the founds.
