OCD_OCD: you obviously believe more that she was deserving than not deserving, otherwise you would not have taken such obvious exception to my statement.

StuckInTheSixties:

No, OCD, I've not said that you're "wrong." In fact, I was surprised about your answer about Betty Ford, that you would also deny her the hypothetical half-staff honor.

I'd say your personal preferences for who should get, and who should be denied, that honor is somewhat outside of the mainstream.

I said I thought you were being disingenuous about the issue.

I said that because it was pretty clear your complaint in your initial posting was because she was a "crack head," not because of the lack of "national sacrifice" you then shifted your focus upon. There was no mention of that in your first three posts, all of which focused upon drugs and drug use. Taken as a whole, any reasonable reader would see your complaint as being about the honor given to an addict, not the honor being given to someone lacking "national sacrifice."

Gerald says:
"You don't agree with her point that the flag shouldn't be lowered for Whitney"

No, I never said that. I specifically said:
"I'm not contending that the flag should be flown at half-staff for Whitney. Frankly, I have no position on that specific issue."

(That's the third time I've said that.)

Why can't you simply accept that I have no stance where you insist I have one?

Later!

OCD_OCD: I never said that Betty Ford would not qualify.
She was a First Lady. Whitney Houston was not.

Wild__: On a serious note, (it happens every once in a while)

Is there a precedent from other national icons?

Did we fly the flag at half mast for Elvis? Jimi Hendrix? Micheal Jackson?

OCD_OCD: that was kinda my point, Wildman, but Sixties got philosophic about it. I guess it is not democratic to fly the flag at half mast for everyone.

OCD_OCD: I didn't say that right. LOL. It is apparently not democratic to not fly the flag for everyone. We are all comrades.
