Should it be illegal to film police officers? (Page 3)

quarks
quarks: one should be able to video tape law enforcement if it does not hender safety or inhibit them from performing their duties legally.
if an individual is beyond reproach they have nothing to hide.
I think the law enforcement officers record on video what they are doing for proof. maybe this is not in all countries.

Aspect212
Aspect212:
You have the right to video record and photograph absolutely anyone in public whether they consent to it or not. When people go into the public, they have no expectation of privacy. Video recording and taking photographs are protected by the First Amendment.

You have the right to video record on duty police officers.

You do not have to hand over your video recorder or camera to a police officer without a court ordered warrant.

You do not have to allow a police officer to enter your home without a warrant.

If you are pulled over by a police officer for photographing or video recording, politely assert your rights (you are protected by the First Amendment). You do NOT have to show photo ID or give your name unless you are being suspected of a crime. Do research on "Consensual Encounter." If a police officer orders you to put your recorder or camera away, he has given you an unlawful order, and you are under no obligation to comply. But if you don't want to get arrested, you might want to comply. If you get arrested, you may later sue for false arrest. if an officer asks you what you are doing, you can say "That's my business." And ask him "Am I being detained or am I free to go?" Or, "Am I being suspected of a crime"? If he keeps messing with you, politely request to speak with his supervisor and then assert your rights. If a civilian asks you what you are doing with your recorder or camera, you are under no obligation to answer him. He is not an officer, and you are not being detained by an officer, nor being suspected of a crime. You don't owe a civilian any explanation.

42 USC section 1983, popularly known as "Section 1983," is a federal law that allows lawsuits for violations of constitutional rights.

You have the right to carry a gun in a state where it is legal.

"People find it very hard to conceive that upstanding, upright members of our police force are corrupt. They don't want to believe it, it doesn't make you feel very protected and most people can't conceive it" - Sallie-Anne Huckstepp on Roger Rogerson.

A career does not make someone trustworthy. Those with more responsibilities need to have more criticism & must be monitored deeper than anyone else.

True on that.

If there’s nothing to hide then let it all out in the public domain.

If there is something to hide then they’re doing their job wrong.

Owen49: They work for "we, the people". They are employed to serve us. It is in our best interest to be able to record their words & actions in public. Just because they're police doesn't mean they're all honorable. Considerable corruption and illegal activity has been exposed by members of the public recording police in action.
