French nationalists sue Madonna

Geoff
Geoff: I very nearly referred to them as 'Nazis', but apparently the French far right National Front party, and their leader, Marine Le Pen object to the comparison. Perhaps they are frequenters of online forums and are sick of being likened to characters from the darkest part of Germany's 20th Century history, but possibly only because being a National Front means that they don't like being thought of as having anything to do with foreigners.

Madonna, in her usual tactful and dignified way, has backdropped her performance of a song during her MDMA (do the parents of the typical consumers of pop music spot the not-so-cleverly disguised drugs reference?) tour's Paris leg with a series of photos of famous people, including an image of Marine Le Pen with a swastika superimposed on her face.

As it was a series of photos quickly morphing from one to the next, and the photo that followed the French politician was one of Hitler, it was perhaps that the insult was purely in the mind of the National Front.

I think it can safely be dismissed as an accident, after all - it is highly unlikely that Madonna even knows who Marine Le Pen is. It is only slightly more likely that she knows who Adolf Hitler was.

Geoff: No, it's because she is has never demonstrated that she has any intelligence to speak of.

It has nothing to do with her gender, there are plenty of men who have equally failed to show any sign of critical thought.

OCD_OCD: Madonna is a puffed-up twit in a beef jerky spandex suit. I don't even want to know the realms her mashed up brain has gone into. She isn't a model of womanhood or motherhood and I pfffffft in her general direction.

Geoff: I'm not sure we can blame Madonna, afterall, she is the product of the commercial music industry, which in turn is the product of countless teenagers around the world.

So, we should blame teenagers, or at least those who are given money by their parents to spend on music. Or perhaps the parents, for giving them that money. I was always very careful about what music I bought as a teenager since I had to earn the money myself.

So, bring back the cane. But everytime a child gets beaten at school, drag the parent in to give them the same punishment.

lavendar_star: Madonna is just courting controversy, her album and newly released singles has sank with out a trace, I think she is trying to keep up with the young pop singers on our day. I think someone who has made millions for marketing themselves as a brand and being a virtual culture vulture in creating her style and music probably does have some touch of intelligence in my humble opinion. Just because one makes superficial pop music with a heavy dose of sexuality doesn't mean that don't have some intelligence.

As for the case itself I guess she might get away with it due to freedom of expression or something similar. The far right in Europe as much as they might try dis associate themselves with the most famous far right person in history. They do hate multi culturalism, Muslims, immigration, foreigners (non whites ) and are very nationalistic which is quite similar to the Nazis.

Any entertainer who believes that she can tell countries to cease any sort of hostilities while she is there has poop for brains. She actually believes she has that kind of power.

Geoff: I'm sure it isn't as bad as how they treat gay people in some middle eastern countries.

Or how they treat political dissidents in some oriental counties.

Or how they treat unbelievers in some African countries.

Or how they treat Justin Bieber fans in western countries.

OCD_OCD: We do nothing about it. That's why she's not selling any albums and has to go overseas so that people will even attend her concerts.

She can take her faux English accent, her mangy body, her sex books, sex vids and her pompous "I'm Not a Material Girl" hypocrisy elsewhere. No one cares.

OCD_OCD: Sure, Madonna has a sizeable bank account, but spending $10,000 per month on water seems outrageous.
In Touch Weekly reports that the Material Girl recently confided to a pal that she picked up the pricey habit of drinking only specially blessed Kabbalah water, which costs about $5 per bottle.

OCD_OCD: Last year, Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone - who wrote a book entitled 'Life With My Sister Madonna' - alleged the singer had a facelift in a bid to maintain her youthful appearance.

When asked if he still recognised Madonna from the girl he grew up with, Christopher replied: "Not after the facelift."

chronology
chronology: Does seem an odd stunt for Madonna to play. Ms Le Pen is not a 'Socialist' so why a National Socialist symbol should be placed on her face seems odd. She is also friendly to Israel and not anti Jewish. It is illegal to display a Swastika in France except in certain context such as historical plays and shows etc, so that could be what is landing Madonna in hot water, remember Ms Le Pen is a Lawyer, so slapping an illegal symbol on her face would be an invitation to get sued.

StuckInTheSixties:

Scrutinze the Wiki article on the National Front. There are whiffs of something that smells a bit rotten coming out of there.

I'm sure chronology, the Wireclub History-Revisionist-In-Chief, will have his heart warmed by the section titled: "Issues of revisionism."

This isn't particularly comforting, either:

France: Le Pen Fined for Nazi Remarks

By REUTERS
Published: February 17, 2012

Jean Marie Le Pen, the founder of the far-right National Front party, was found guilty on Thursday of condoning war crimes and was given a suspended jail sentence of three months by a court in Paris. Mr. Le Pen, left, was also fined $13,000 for saying in 2005 that the Nazi occupation of France during World War II had “not been particularly inhumane, even if there were blunders.” His lawyer said he would appeal the ruling, which he called “totally scandalous.” Mr. Le Pen’s daughter, Marine Le Pen, is the party’s candidate for president this year.

The National Front is described by pretty much everyone as being "far-right." I was curious just what that term supposedly meant, and not surprisingly, there's a wiki link for that, too:
