The vast majority of Americans do not. Isolationism means that we will not protect any of our allies and will let them swing in the breeze. We will not allow that to happen. Ron Paul has stated that he believes that the US should not act in any way other than to protect it's own interests. That means that we shore up our borders and pretty much say "screw you" to the rest of the world. How would the US be able to have any type of trade relations under those circumstances. There would also be no aid of any kind to any foreign country. Haiti and some other small countries cannot survive without foreign assistance. As far as getting rid of the tax code, I'm all for it. But we cannot turn our backs on the rest of the world because if we do, that is all it will take for N. Korea to invade S. Korea, China to take a shot at Japan, Iraq to attempt to blow up Israel, etc. I would just as soon the US never purchased another drop of oil from a Middleastern country, but that isn't going to happen because that is how the Middleast survives. They trade their oil for what they cannot produce. The ability to provide other countries with necessities such as food, medicines and other products that they cannot produce is a stabilizing factor. If the US and its allies become insular and cease all trade and relations with other countries, it won't take a red hot minute for Russia to reach out and reclaim places like Georgia. The invasions and grab for lands and resources would not end. Do I wish it were possible? Sure. But it is not going to happen. We must work with other countries whether we like them or not.
