How should the USA react to the beheading of journalist James Foley?

DawnGurl
DawnGurl: American journalist James Foley has been beheaded by the radical Islamists band called Isis, in reaction to the aerial bombing of Isis miltants by the US Air Force. What sort of response do you think is appropriate, if any? It has been suggested that the US bomb Syrian military strongholds of the radical group. I think that constitutes an act of war and is not a proper response, but what do you think?

The13th: Many years ago, I believed the USA when they said "our cause is just". Then, if someone get beheaded, I want a Patriot Game like response with Jack Ryan, POTUS, all those CIA and NSA guys sitting in one room watching on the TV, and Navy Seal go in and cut the throats of those terrorists. We felt the wrong are righted, the world became a better and safer place.

Sadly, not today. USA has been exposed of manipulating and lying on Egypt's Spring movement, Syria's nerve gas episode, Ukraine's sniper fire on civilian, and in the latest episode on MH17 - downright deplorable and irresponsible. Not forgetting the false pretext for the second invasion of Iraq - and see what that country is these days. In fact, I believe both Bush and Obama have never uttered "our cause is just" because they cannot look straight into the camera saying this without people knowing they are lying.

For us generation who grew up reading Tom Clancy and watched TopGun many many times with our kids, it has been an utter let down, a betrayal. To Obama I only have this to say "I hope your dog die".

What about all the people killed by criminals in the US cities? How about sending T Cruise to sort them out.

If its Religious or Racial Hate you want to work with why didn't the US send its military after the Provos??

The Provos were mettle enough to seriously hurt the US Navy seals and other US secret outfits.

AlleyOopOop: There was a time, even in my lifetime, when such an act was considered an act of antagonizing war and was responded to swiftly and severely. There was no such thing as sitting down at the table and negotiating with evil. But today, America is engaged in a battle with an ideal rather than another country. Terrorism has been a way of life for centuries in that part of the world, and America, being somewhat new to this, seems to have little "street smarts" to know how to combat it. America has always faced wars where the enemies were easily recognized because of the flag that was flown. However, the enemies today do not all look alike or talk alike and may not even reside in a foreign land.

When I was a little boy, I remember working with my dad to try and expel an influx of gopher rats in our back yard. He had a great idea to pour gas down the hole, let the fumes spread, and then light a match. Needless to say, when he did, we discovered they had more outlet holes than we knew and we nearly got burned from behind ourselves. Having said that, it's really hard to say or know from our limited knowledge what should be the proper response. But, whatever is done must be done wisely and cautiously.

Hamas leader says group kidnapped Israeli teens in West Bank in June
Published August 21, 2014
Associated Press

JERUSALEM – A senior Hamas leader says the group was behind the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teens in the West Bank in June — the first time anyone from the Islamic militant group has said it was behind an attack that helped spark the current war in the Gaza Strip.

Salah Arouri told a conference in Turkey on Wednesday that Hamas carried out the kidnapping with the broader goal of sparking a new Palestinian uprising. "It was an operation by your brothers from the al-Qassam Brigades," he said, referring to Hamas' military wing.
Hamas has repeatedly praised the kidnappings, but Arouri, the group's exiled West Bank leader, is the first member to claim responsibility.

The kidnapping sparked an Israeli crackdown and chain of events culminating in the current war.

ISIS is a group of madmen. They are worse than Al Quida, the Muslim Brotherhood...or Hamas. They murder every one. Muslim, Christian, or Jew.

And how is Obama handling this?

Horribly. A recent failed SEAL mission to liberate the journalist and perhaps others. That is why the journalist was beheaded. It was a slap in the face to Obama and it all lays at the feet of Obama. He wants to be the big boy...he's just a squirt. He promised his political base not to reintroduce boots on the ground in Iraq no matter how many innocents are murdered. However, a few air strikes ain't gonna accomplish taking out ISIS.

Dave3974,

I know you were kidding however...I posted almost in jest in a few threads...that we should have used a battlefield nuke in Fallujah, Iraq. Our Marines would not have had such a terrible time their. It would have also sent a message not to 'fuck' with the USA. Look at what's happening now especially with the rise of ISIS. We lost all control over any progress we had in Iraq and now also Afghanistan.

But we did use them. Twice. Killed hundreds of thousands and wiped two cities out.

That was 69 years ago. And seriously, don't you believe that if ISIS could get their murderous mitts on a nuke that they would use it?

But, my point is..... that we did not make an impact on how they 'should have' feared us because...

...they do not fear us

....nor respect us.

Do not know which is worse.
