Texas legislator fillibusters against abortion bill (Page 2) near50ohoh: i've said elsewhere that i'm pro a woman's right to chose so long as abortion is not used as a goto birth control device. the viability of the fetus is certainly a fair cut off point but it's not a magical number. these early babies are born, even today, with horrendous delays and defects that disrupt the lives of the families involved and the baby worst of all. and cost society obscene amounts of money to track and manage. the viability stats are a bit off so i googled and here are the stats. at 23 weeks,20-35 % survive, at 24-25 weeks, 50-70 % survive, and at 26-27 weeks, 90 % survive as i said with defects and delays though that may yet lead to death after the families are attached. the discussions so far havent considered the fact that mom may not have been mentally well when she was postponing finding out she was pregnant and may not have known much sooner that she was pregnant . or she may have been young and foolish and tried to hide things figuring the situation may take care of itself. young girls give birth and dump babies far too often with no medical care ever. mom may have been menstruating and not "shown" till 5 mths then they "popped". i knew a woman who was seven mths before she had to tell anyone she was pregnant.then it was like someone put a balloon in her overnight. and with a scared, undernourished, perhaps addicted mom. well... i know it's easy to judge mom but that's not who i ever target here, wtf is the doctor doing, the freak?!! he or she should know better!! and yes the clinics should be mandated so, sad as i feel about big brother govt in our reproductive business, i want them there front and center when it comes to good gynaecological care. watching the freak doctors very carefully. i dont care what their motives are so long as it's done. near50ohoh: i'm not sure which room you'd put me in, dave and ocd_ocd but pls don't kick me i bruise easily    OCD_OCD: So are you saying that if only 20% of the babies are viable at 5 months, that they don't count and you should be able to chop and suck them out without guilt? near50ohoh: nope wont ever get me to say that. i'm for the woman's right to choose cuzz she has to live with herself, no matter what she does. any choice she makes she'll second guess and wonder about. as i said, also, i dont believe abortion should be a goto birth control device   the real slim DEEPy: i dont see why viable fetuses dont deserve equal rights, honestly (Edited by the real slim DEEPy) the real slim DEEPy: do remember-,rowe v/s wade was before the advent of dna analysis, you dont want it re-tried today... and rowe v/s wade only prevents abortion restrictions within the 1st trimenster (Edited by the real slim DEEPy) near50ohoh: my strong feeling though is that women lead in this issue (nods to a man for raising the thread, however...).we are the ones who carry the babe within and get attached ( or not), we give birth and go thru any complications and we are the ones who bear the social stigma while guys get off with snickers and "oh you stud you" accolades while we chase you down for child support. and what does ur dna have to do with that? up until the baby is born? The only reason to do so is danger to the mother or the child. Anything else is barbaric, selfish and shows the utmost in cruelty and contempt for being female. There is a CHOICE involved by the woman and someone selfish enough to insure the death of a child at such a late date is contemptible. Do it before 20 weeks or don't do it at all. near50ohoh: ocd, why is ur sister getting the blame and not the perv who raped her and put her into such a depression she had no idea her body was changing? or the runner who left her on her own, broken hearted and praying he would return to her? or how about the doctor who agreed to abort the babe? i know a young catholic woman who got pregnant cuzz her bf talked her into it, then ran. his and her parents shunned her and the church kicked her out. all this took time of course. so by 25 weeks she was suicidal. who in this situation was most wrong? in my view, it wasnt her.
