The hideous march of the far-right anarchists (Page 3) davesdatahut: Ok, so where do you think we should go with the scissors? You have suggested revenue generators for the government, via improving the economy. Where do we go to cut? davidk14: . Let's first go to this site to see what goes where.... https://www.google.com/search?q=tax+dollar+pie+charts&espv=210&es_sm=122&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=sE2JUrqSNcjY2gWn3oHgAw&ved=0CDsQsAQ&biw=1576&bih=766#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=8aO0j2KfBp8gLM%3A%3B1HeTgihW-cyXbM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.secureonlinetaxpreparation.com%252FClientBin%252Fimages%252FTaxPie.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.secureonlinetaxpreparation.com%252Ftaxhelp%252FTaxDollarsGo.htm%3B550%3B330 First, let me know if you can open this up. I'd start with "physical, human, and community development" which, according to that chart, accounts for 15%. Another 10.5% could easily be slashed from "social programs." "Social Security, Medicare, and other retirement" is where it gets tricky as cuts to those programs hurt the people that need it the most... elderly. davesdatahut: Wild, which particular programs would be highest on your list of cuts? David, how about yours? I would tighten the rules for receiving welfare aid like food stamps, rental aid, medical aid, etc. to make sure that it truly goes to families struggling to make ends meet on low-wage jobs, or parents who lost jobs, and not people just looking to live off the dole for a while. This aid is meant to be temporary for people in serious need, not as a crutch to avoid working. But I would focus most on the biggies - Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security - because those are the programs with costs spiraling out of control now, or will run out of money. At the same time, I would look to see where continued technology gains can be used to cut military spending. One other possible place is the ballooning pension system for federal workers. Raising the age at which people can collect benefits is one possibility.
