Is there A Debt Ceiling?

Kaiya_
Kaiya_: The government voted not to even have a debt ceiling until they can come back and debate about it in Jan. so my question is: Is the debt ceiling debates just a distraction as a cover for them to pass new taxes and austerity using fake government shutdowns to scare us into it?

Do they just not want us to know that the bank has already given them a credit card in our name with unlimited spending?

Should n't it be a ' credit limit '?

I know the US Judges had such a mental problem with Debit Cards that it was worse then their problems with cars.

DEEP_acheleg: the debt ceiling is congress approved deficit balance, which we continually have to raise, in the absence of a balanced budget, or, even paying interest payments. there are 2 solutions, austerity or tax hikes, both of which are a possible way to balance the budget, and not require a debt ceiling increase. he reason we keep on runing into the debt cieling is because the majority of congress only advocates austerity, while the senate only wants tax hikes, and they will not compromise with each other.

ghostgeek: As this debt ceiling is always raised when it's reached the obvious solution would be to do away with it altogether. That way there'd be no more fuss and the U.S. could go on borrowing until it pops.

DEEP_acheleg: yes, a blank check, id gladly give one to my "representatives".

there is a 3rd option, one already being practiced. the republican-supported monetization of debt- inflation, thru expansion of the money supply and the fractional reserve multiplier.

the printing presses never stop.

ghostgeek: The US could always try living within its means. It could even pay off its debts. Of course, government spending would have to be cut but I'm sure the great American public wouldn't mind that. Mmmm...on second thoughts perhaps that's a step too far.

Geez!!!! It's not the spending in 'government' that is causing the issue!!! Although, government could always spend it's money more efficiently of course!!!!

It's the entitlements...SOCIAL SECURITY....MEDICARE....MEDICAID...and soon coming to a theater near you....OBAMACARE....

These entiltlements are the issue.

Perhaps if the US had a few dozen combat brigades in Poland in early 1939, Hitler would have thought twice about attacking.

I also have Polish blood and if the US had a few dozen combat brigades in Poland in 1939, dozens of my family members might have been spared the death camps. Just perhaps. And just perhaps, not a drop of American blood would have been spilled. Perhaps, if the US had been in Poland with a few dozen combat brigades, 10s of millions of lives might have been spared. Just perhaps. But to just say, it isn't the US job might just be silly. Remember Rwanda? How about Nigeria? Or how about Darfur? If the US had troops stationed in those countries, perhaps bazillions of people might not have been murdered in cold blood.

Yeah, I know your next comment...the US can not be the world's cops. But there is never a cop around when you need one anyway.

Silly me.

Lori,

I guess Castro, was too and so and one way or another so were Mugabe, Vlad, Kim Jong Il, Idi Amin, Lenin, Horohito, and Ho Chi Minh.

On the other hand, the following folks also were supported and funded by America and other governments, banks, corporations and these folks to were 'created'. This list is much longer....

Leo Tolstoy, Benjamin Franklin, Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Betty Williams, Mother Teresa, Lech Walesa, Tawakku Karmin and Nelson Mandela.

Folks should focus on the good Lori....not the bad. Those individuals that are constantly keeping the negative in focus, allow the dark side to control their thoughts. Instead of focusing on aliens and lizard people, read up on Nelson Mandela. He too was created by government.
